CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The red “Make America Great Again” hat is one of the most iconic symbols of President Donald Trump's campaigns both in 2016 and in 2020.

And that hat, sold through Donald Trump's official campaign website, is made in America.

But that's definitely not the case for much of the Trump gear available at his sold out rallies.

MAGA hats, t-shirts, and then there's the slogans and phrases. If you head to a Trump rally, you literally walk through a sea of vendors, hawking goods that support President Trump.

But does all of that merchandise support American workers?

Not exactly.

Rocky Granada sells Trump merchandise at the rallies. “I work every day for Donald Trump. I live, eat, and drink for Donald Trump,” said Granada.

He is part of the travelling show. He says he's been to more than 60 rallies for President Trump.

“I'd like to hit them all, but that’s impossible,” said Granada.

He's selling his Trump merchandise out of an RV.

These vendors are certainly loyal to the Trump brand, but not necessarily to the Trump ethos of "American-made."

“Well, most of it is made in China, but we do have some stuff that’s made in America,” said Granada, pulling a scarf from the RV. “Right here, it’s recycled cotton,” stated Granada.

Some rally-goers are aware.

“A lot of our economy is based on things that go on in China,” said one Trump supporter.

The ABC News 4 crew walked around outside the rally in North Charleston Friday, lifting the tags on several items. Many read made in China, in the Dominican Republic, in Haiti and in Honduras but not in the USA.

However, the official Trump gear sold on the campaign website is made in America by American workers.

It's hard to tell a difference between the ones on the website and the ones at the rally.

Granada downplays the significance.

“Hats are made in China, shirts that come from overseas, but they get the labor done here, but it helps out either way,” said Granada.

For one rally-goer it's about showing support for her president.

“I’m a Trump fan everything, why not? He’s a good person to support because he supports our country,” the supporter said.

The Trump campaign tells us that each purchase through the official website is considered a campaign contribution.
