Where Is 'P-Valley' Filmed? - Harper's Bazaar

The acclaimed Starz series P-Valley returned for its second season this month, bringing viewers back to The Pynk. Adapted from creator Katori Hall's 2015 play, "Pussy Valley," the workplace drama following the dancers and staff of a Mississippi strip club is a love letter to Southern women, showing the athleticism and ambition powering the club on a day-to-day basis. The show's also beloved for its Shakespearian slang and outspoken characters, including the beloved, fabulous owner of The Pynk, Uncle Clifford (Nicco Annan).

Season 2 sees the Rona hit the fictional town of Chucalissa, Mississippi and shows how Uncle Clifford, veteran dancer Mercedes (Brandee Evans), rising star Keyshawn (Shannon Thornton), and the rest of the town adapt to pandemic protocols. While the Pynk is located in a semi-rural town on the Delta waterfront, the show is filmed a bit more inland.

Most of the show is filmed in Atlanta.

Both seasons 1 and 2 of P-Valley were filmed entirely in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area in Georgia, including the East Point neighborhood and some locations in the Southwest part of the city, per The Cinemaholic. After a break between seasons caused by the pandemic, season 2 filmed within six months, wrapping in February 2022. Local news outlets also reported that filming took place at the Cheetah Club on West Peachtree Street in Midtown.

The capital of the Peach State has become a popular filming hub over the years, with shows including Stranger Things, Ozark, and The Walking Dead filming in Atlanta in 2021.

The show's "slanguage" is inspired by creator Katori Hall's upbringing.

P-Valley is filled with references and homages to Black southern life, from the local churches and majorette groups in Chucalissa to the dialect and slang that the characters use. In an interview with Deadline, Hall spoke about drawing inspiration for the show's language from her upbringing in Memphis, Tennessee.

"The hallmark of the Katori Hall universe is that there's going to be a kind of 'slanguage,'" Hall told the outlet. "There's going to be an embrace of accent, an embrace of dialect, an embracing of slang. I talk like that anyway. And so, it was just this direct reflection of my tongue, and the tongue of my family, and the tongue of my ancestors, all kind of mixed into this pot."
