Placerville, nicknamed Hangtown, is a city and El Dorado County seat in the state of California, USA, located 44 miles east of Sacramento. It is also part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was incorporated on May 13, 1854. The city is located at the intersection of two main roads, State Route 49 and U.S. Route 50. There are a few attractions in the city including Gold Bug Park & Mine, Lions Park, Placerville Aquatic Center, Combellack-Blair House, historic Confidence Hall, John Pearson Soda Works, the Church of Our Saviour, Placerville Shakespeare Club, and Fountain & Tallman Museum. Placerville Mountain Democrat, the newspaper of El Dorado County, is the oldest continuously published newspaper in the state.
