Something that I've been pondering when I was thinking of Ben. Where has all of Anakin's height gone? Padme was 5'5" and Anakin was just about at 6'1" and topped out at 6'7" as Vader (though that was cybernetically enhanced). Luke topped out at 5'7" nearly 5'8", Leia and Jaina don't even break 5', Jacen was at 5'10" but that's the same height as Han, and Anakin was 5'8" when he died at 17. I'm guessing there was a possibility of Anakin growing taller than everyone, but who knows. So the question is why not have a taller Skywalker? Give Ben the height that's been missing since Anakin Sr. My minds been doing crazy things, but can anyone honestly say that they'd be against Ben grow to be a height similar to Anakin?

The thing's just off because some people didn't know how to use conversion tables. I assume Padme's parents were pretty short. Her dad came to Anakin's waist. Now Han and Leia's kids should be average. 5'10 for the boys (though Jacen was supposed to be over 6 feet), and Leland Che said that jaina is 5'4" as an adult. Yeah I got all of the heights off of the Wook, so that's what I'm going to presume their heights are. I'm going to guess that Luke, Leia, Han, Anakin Sr., and Padme's heights are how tall Hayden, Mark, Harrison, Natalie, and Carrie are. This really isn't that much of an issue, it's just a thought that I had. Maybe it devolves into a good discussion, but it most likely won't, I'm just throwing it out there.

i'm pretty short for a guy, so i don't mind i think they said that ben was taller than jacen at some point. or getting there.

I think he's somewhere between the 5'6"-5'8" range right now. Pretty much at Luke's height or shorter. Now if that is going to translate into over 6 feet in height when he's done growing? Who knows, but here's hoping it happens if only to say that Skywalker's aren't midgets anymore. And no I'm not the tallest person around (average height) but I have tall person envy, in that the ideal height I would want to be is in the 5'11"-6'1" range.

Those heights aren't right. Leia's 5'1". Jaina's probably 5'2" or so. Luke's 5'9". Anakin's 5'9" shortly after his sixteenth birthday in Balance Point, and taller by Star by Star. Jacen's the short one, shorter than Jaina in Balance Point, but grows later (although this is partially Force-use ). Ben's also 5'9" by the age of sixteen. So I'd guess that Anakin and Ben both got the Vader height. Unless the twins are really Kenobi's, and the height came in from Han, who made 6'1" with a malnourished childhood. - The Imperial Ewok

Not a knock on you at all but how did you get those numbers? I've already announced that I shamelessly used the Wook for every height except for Ben's (didn't have one listed), but I'm guessing you used book evidence. Where did they come from?

Leia and Luke's heights are Carrie's and Mark's. Jaina's height's a guess (though she was noticeably taller than Jacen for two years until Balance Point, and if she was just 4'11", that would make Jacen a dwarf). Anakin's said to be around Luke's height in Balance Point, though perhaps not as exactly so as I remembered ("the same compact build, though Anakin hadn't finished fleshing out", Mara's POV - with the amusing subtext that she thinks Anakin's stopped growing because he's hit Luke's height ) and in Star by Star, he seems to have grown ("she was struck by how tall her brother had grown", Jaina's POV)... Ben's also said to have a similar build to Luke in the recent novels - I'll try and find a quote. There ARE issues of continuity here: to take a notorious example, Jeremy Bulloch is 6'1, and the clone troopers are 1.83cm i.e. 6'... except in The Cestus Deception, where they're "exacty 1.78 meters" (i.e. 5'10")... but Temuera Morrison is just 5'7" (170.2 cm), and Fett is described as "medium height" in TUF. Jango Fett's height increases 5" when he puts on the armour in AotC (i.e. when he's CGI). Similarly, Leia's taller in close shots with Han, because Kersh made Carrie stand on boxes. Also the YV are said repeatedly to be about 1.78m, when in canon, they're consistently Vader-height. - The Imperial Ewok

As I said already, the line says that Jaina was taller than Jacen for three years. It doesn't say the three latest years. Ben is said to be about the same height as Luke in LOTF; I would personally hope that, given he's 5'7"ish at 14, the writers would pick up on this and have him a tall guy. I hadn't thought of this at all, but you make a good point. I'd hate to see the descendants of Darth Vader consigned to shortness. Legacy, at least, fixes this: Cade towers over Luke's Force ghost -- he's got to be about six feet. Kol's Force ghost, in turn, is about three or four inches taller than Cade. Kol's probably the tallest (natural) Skywalker we've ever seen.

Nat was built like a tank. Kol was definetely the leaner one. Leia and Jaina are only 5 feet tall?

Well.if Jacen is smaller than his 4'10 sister than that is pretty tiny. Makes me wonder though...how tall is Tahiri? Isnt she supposed to be a lot smaller than Jaina? Which would mean she is the Star Wars version of Thumbelina.

Jacen isn't shorter than Jaina; McEwok's just on an overinterpretation kick. As for Nat, he seems to be right about Cade's height. He can't be more than about two inches taller. Let's call it Cade 6'0", Nat 6'1", and Kol 6'4", ballparked. If I was the canon guy writing stats for the next EGTC, that's what I'd put down. All this is based on shots in which height is directly comparable relative to Cade for Kol and Nat, and shots in which height is pretty estimable for Cade relative to Luke, who's given a canon height. So it's all rough, and of course art is never absolutely consistent, but we can pretty confidently say that Cade's somewhere around 5'10" to 6'0" (in the one really estimable shot, he's way taller than 5'8" Luke, but he's not significantly taller than most of the rest of the cast and is shorter than a handful, so no way is he over six feet), Nat's about that size or a hair taller, and Kol breaks six feet and is a good couple inches taller than whatever Cade is.

Jaina teasingly calls him "her little brother", because, "For about two years, she had been taller". I think that's more likely than not to imply that Jacen's still shorter, even though Leia says "you're as big as your father" when she meets him. Also, for what it's worth, Mara's taller than Anakin. It can't be a running taunt? If you want to take it as a current reference, it conflicts with everything else established about his height -- including Leia's comment there. If you don't insist on pegging it to that point in time, there's no conflict. So I don't see why the contrarian interpretation is preferable.

It could be that Jaina was taller than Jacen all the way until they hit their teenage growth spurts. There Jaina didn't grow too much and Jacen shot up. This happened when they were 13 or 14.

It can be a running taunt, yes - but the "ambiguous interpretation" point you raised reduces the certainty of your own reading, too. The "contrarian" reading (as you rhetorically mislabel it ), is in fact the more straightforward reading: "Jacen is smaller, and has been for two years", as opposed to "Jacen used to be smaller, for two years, at some unspecified point in the past, and as such, Jaina calls him her 'little' brother sometimes, even though he's 8" taller".... Your own argument is kicked into ambiguity along with mine, but returning to context, we see that mine is the cleaner reading, and that counts for something. Because, what else has been "established" about his height, exactly, except that he got noticeably taller after the Forcegasm in TUF? Leia, who's probably been taller than Jacen until now, is likely to notice if he flips up past her height of 5'1". Jacen's POV also suggests that he's short: [i said:

Rhetorical small-in-the-face-of-the-Force stuff has no impact on whether he'd consider himself small next to another human. The NEGTC has him at 5'10", and it doesn't go up to TUF -- only to just-post-SBS. And he didn't shoot up almost a foot in a year. Your reading isn't necessarily contrarian in the face of the passage itself -- but in the face of the wider canon, it is. It creates conflict with the rest of canon, and with Leia's statement right in the book itself, on the basis of only one possible interpretation of a line, discarding the interpretation that would mesh with everything else for little reason.

NEGTC has Jaina at 4'11" and Nom Anor at 5'9 1/2". Both of these are equally rubbish. Like the dates in The Esssential Atlas, these sourcebook heights do not fit with primary canon. Havac said:

Apart from the unreliable NEGTC height, what is this "wider canon"? Leia's "as big as your father" statement, which could easily be rhetorical for "you're taller than me now". I'll add Jacen's POV of Han early in Balance Point, which I've just found: "Jacen could almost look him in the eye, nowadays", but that's offset by his own POV of himself a few lines earlier as "still growing" and a "barely grown boy"; Jacen's definitely growing, and it's noticeable when he's with his parents, but that doesn't mean he's actually that tall - just that he's relatively taller. In my POV's favour, Vergere repeatedly calls him "little Solo" in Traitor. - The Imperial Ewok
