How to Unlock Where the Cat and Wolf Play...

The player can start the quest through the Contract quest Contract: The Beast of Honorton. Alternatively the player can head directly to the right village directly south of Crow's Perch.

Is Where the Cat and Wolf Play... Missable or Failable?

This quest will fail if the player strays too far away from Millie (little girl) after dealing with Gaetan (School of Cat Witcher).

Where the Cat and Wolf Play... Walkthrough

Objectives
1	Investigate the village using your Witcher Sense. After examining a number of objects, 2 Alghouls will attack. In the southeastern barn is an Alghoul. Examine these objects after killing it: ・A corpse outside・A broken bolt・A bucket・Another corpse・A pitchfork・A corpse holding on to a silver chain
2	Examine these in the north eastern hut:・A corpse・A stove・A leshen's severed head You will have to examine these in the north western hut:・Corpse of a dog outside・A man's corpseAnd in the south western hut:・ A woman's corpse inside the hut・A mans corpse outside next to the fence
3	After you investigated and examined the objects in any order, a cutscene of a girl running will play. Head to the marked area. You will find a doll and a child's footprints. Pick up the doll then follow the footprints.
4	You will find the girl behind a large tree. You can use Axii (Delusion level 1) for 30 XP. Otherwise, you can just give her doll. You will receive the School of Cat Medallion and 50 XP.
5	Go to the stone circle marked on your map. Examine the footprints then follow the tracks. 7 wolves will be in the path of the tracks.
6	Talk to Gaetan (School of Cat Witcher) at the end of the trail. Here you will choose between killing him or sparing him. Regardless of your choice, you will receive 200 XP after.
7	Go back to Millie (the little girl). Going too far away from the girl will fail the quest.

Killing Gaetan

You will have to have to fight Gaeten in a 1 vs. 1 melee. Killing him will let you loot Teigr from his corpse.

Sparing Gaetan

If you spare Gaetan, he will tell you the location to his stash. It will start the short side quest Take What You Want. You will be rewarded with 250 Crowns and Teigr.

Best Choice

The best choice here would be to spare Gaetan. You will avoid a fight and still be able to get Teigr, plus 250 Crowns.

Fighting Gaetan

You can decide to let him drink a Swallow Potion before the fight. It is best if you choose not to let him. If you do let him, it will result with him throwing a bomb as the fight begins, blinding Geralt, which will prevent you from locking on manually, and your attacks will not have the automatic lock-on either.

Gaetan will fight like other human enemies, with the difference being that he has light and heavy attacks, and that he will also use signs against Geralt. He can use Quen, Aard and Igni. He is human, so using Hanged Man's Venom will be effective against him. You can also stun him with a Samum Bomb, Aard, and Axii.

His sword attacks can also occasionally cause bleeding on hit. It is best to try to counter his attacks, as he will be agressive, giving you plenty of opportunities to do so. Once countered, go for at least 3 light attacks or 2 heavy attacks, then dodge immediately after in case he retaliates.

Counter Heavy Loop

One technique a player can use to beat Gaetan is by countering his attack then hitting him twice with heavy attacks. After the second hit, he will usually try to attack right away. This is when you counter him again. Keep repeating until he is dead.

This can take a bit of time to perfectly execute as he can either do a light or heavy attack when he attacks back. A light attack will necessitate the timing of the counter to be fast, while a heavy attack will need to be a bit later. He may also occasionally use Quen in between your attacks.

Beware that the counter can be inconsistent on uneven ground.
