Well I can tell you not only where the heck it is but also what the heck it is! I recently took a trip to South Dakota with my family to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, and of course the infamous Wall Drug. I have had these stops on my bucket list for years now, especially Wall Drug after the story my Granddaddy told me growing up. 25 years prior to this trip my parents took one with my Granddaddy to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. As they made the drive they passed a numerous amount of signs advertising Wall Drug. It was a place he wanted to stop and visit so badly to see what all the hype was about from the signs, as well as be able to say he knew where the heck Wall Drug was. Wall Drug is located in Wall, South Dakota which is about an hour from Rapid City (Rapid City is a half hour from Mount Rushmore). It was originally bought in 1931 by Ted Hustead, a pharmacist. It started off as a drug store and then when business became slow his wife pitched the idea to offer free ice water to travelers and over time has now turned into a wonderfully quirky tourist attraction. It has a charming western/cowboy theme and is home to a number of the stores, a chapel, a restaurant, and gift shops. They are quite known for the numerous signs you pass on the I-90, offering their free ice water to travelers, 5 cent coffee, free doughnut and coffee to veterans, and many more; They are also known for by the phrase, “Where the Heck is Wall Drug”. And let it be known they really do offer and honor this! We didn’t spend a ton of time there, roughly a half hour and we also got there in the evening so I didn’t go adventure around as much as I would have liked but I really want to go back. I recommend spending at least an hour there to look around,. They have some fun statues that are great for some photo-ops! I think my favorite thing to see there was the old wooden sculpture people, they are really well made and look so cool. One startled me when I first walked in, I thought it was an actual person. This is probably one of my favorite places to have ever visited.
