Max

The main protagonist of the story, Max is a young boy who has been reprimanded by his mother and sent to bed without dinner. His vivid imagination transports him to a forest where he embraces the life of the wild things until he becomes lonely and returns home for dinner.

Wild Things

The wild things are big, hairy, frightening creatures who live in the forest. They welcome Max to their home and appoint him king. When Max leaves, they are very upset to see him go.

Max's Mother

Max's mother reprimands him for causing mischief and being rude to her by sending him to his room without supper for a time-out. However, the punishment is not a serious one: when Max returns from his imagination, she has provided him with a hot supper.
