Where to go blackberry picking in Bristol

After a scorcher of a summer, and then sudden downpours of torrential rain, it can only mean that Autumn is closing in, which means it’s time for foraging delicious blackberries on your dog walk in Bristol. This change of weather makes the blackberries sweet and juicy though, so it’s a great time to seek them out! Here are some places in and around Bristol for blackberry picking on your dog walk:

Stockwood Open Space Nature Reserve

Home to overflowing blackberries bushes that line the main paths, this is the place we’ve seen the most blackberries. You won’t have to wander far to pick them! Beautiful views across Bristol make this a great place to explore.

Horfield Common

Around the edges of the common you will find some blackberry bushes – especially behind the play park. After, stop off at the lovely and dog friendly Cafe on the Common for a drink to quench your thirst.

Manor Woods Valley

Make a beeline for the main path or the orchard area for lots of blackberries. It’s also a great medium walk for kids who can skip across the large flat rocks on the weirs that cross the river.

Stoke Park Estate

Make a day of exploring Stoke Park, picking blackberries, walking the sculpture trail in Long Wood and Hermitage Wood before heading to Purdown Percy to visit the goats (they are fenced in) and take in the views of Bristol. We would highly recommend stopping at Boston Tea Party in Cheswick Village on your way back.

There are lots of ripe blackberries here just waiting to be picked! Head towards Clifton Down, near the cliffs and Sneyd Park to find the best ones. Lots of open space for doggies to run around and play as well.

With lots of bramble on the hill, which not only provides valuable wildlife habitat, but also juicy blackberries! Make an afternoon of foraging and take a picnic to eat whilst sitting and looking at one of the best views of Bristol.

A forager’s dream, Leigh Woods is known for its bountiful supply of food (including edible fungi) throughout the seasons. There’s plenty of spots to pick blackberries whilst strolling along. Look out for events hosted by The National Trust who sometimes host foraging walks.

Bordering the reserve are lots of blackberries bushes, particularly at the top of the nature reserve, with the benefit of stunning views across Bristol.

Eastwood Farm Nature Reserve

A wonderful dog walk and probably one of our most favorite peaceful spots in Bristol. Spot the blackberry bushes bordering the fields before walking through the woodland to wander down the grassy path bordering the River Avon. We highly recommend going to Beese’s Gardens & Bar for a drink or bite to eat after.
