What is the best area to stay in Turks and Caicos?
By Carles Barcelo. Updated October 27, 2023
Those looking for a paradise on this planet can find one located 575 miles (925 km) southeast of Miami, Florida. Only about 30,000 people have the privilege to live on nine islands of the warm tropical Atlantic archipelago Turks and Caicos. In the past, the island's name was a warning for travelers to keep themselves safe from pirates. Nowadays, this place offers fun, enjoyment, and the opportunity to dive and snorkel between the unspoiled barrier reefs.
With the lowest average annual rainfall in the region, this island is tempting for tourists looking for sun, white sand beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise water. Over time, Turks and Caicos have become a synonym for luxury tourism, with Grace Bay as the best area to stay. The most top-notch hotels and trendy resorts are situated at the magnificent, seven-mile-long Grace Bay Beach. The beautiful villages, enormous waterpark, and gourmet restaurants make this place the last untouched exotics.
The best way to come is by a commercial or private plane that lands at the Providenciales International Airport. Then, you can continue the flight to the final destination by local planes. If you are not into flights, you can come by cruise ship or yacht at a port-of-entry in Grand Turk and then board to a ferry. Getting around the island is easy thanks to the taxi, bicycle, and excellent car rental service.

Grace Bay, the best area to stay in Turks and Caicos
Grace Bay Beach is doubtless the best area to stay for those searching for perfect harmony and world-class diving. Its all-oceanfront suites with pools and family-friendly villas are excellent choices for travelers seeking Caribbean elegance, family vacation, fairy tale wedding, and romantic getaway. The sparkling shores, a long coral reef, and marine life will take your breath away. That is the reason why diving should be the first activity once you come to this paradise.
Right off Grace Bay Beach is Coral Gardens, where you can take one of the beginner scuba dive courses. Then, go to seamounts, enjoy watching migrating humpback whales, and don't miss exciting diving excursions in a 1,000 feet (305 m) deep ocean on the north side. After the day full of adrenaline, grab a cold drink, and spend relaxed time with your kids next to a heated swimming pool. Discover the advantage of a peaceful, shady cabana or try complimentary water sports like kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing, depending on your temperament and desires.

Turtle Cove
For tourists who want to stay in one of the luxury rental villas, Turtle Cove on the north coast is definitely the place of choice. It is a residential region and center of activity that includes the marina, excellent restaurants, and small local shops. Turtle Cove has the largest marina on the island and a sheltered complex for fishing, boat cruise operators, and most water sports businesses. On the other hand, Smith’s Reef, located east of the marina inlet, is ideal for those enjoying snorkeling, diving, fishing, Jet Skiing, waterskiing, and banana boat rides.
Once you dive, look for hawksbill turtles, anemones, sea cucumbers, and green parrotfish. After getting to know the beauties of the underwater world, you can taste fresh seafood and top-quality wine in the local restaurant with a breathtaking ocean view. Then, take a romantic walk, find one of the excellent golf courses, or admire the glamorous set of anchored yachts, depending on your preferences.

Long Bay Hills
Long Bay Hills is the highest interior residential area of the Long Bay Region, including a few hill ridges parallel to the beach. This trendy place is one of the favorite accommodations, where many visitors choose to stay. If you are a history lover, go to the Crist Point and Bird Rock Trail in the east and enjoy the remaining ruins and the former plantation. Then, take a look at the famous freighter ship La Famille Express' wreck.
Take a walk along 3 miles (4,8 km) long beach that fronts the residential part of Long Bay Hills. Stepping through white sand with an incredible view of shallow turquoise water will provide you with a special feeling. Be careful and take care to avoid stepping on old shells. It can be quite painful. The beach is accessible from several sides. The best option is a boardwalk next to the Shore Club that leads directly to the beach. Besides, you can use paved parking when coming by car.

Grand Turk
Cockburn Town, the territory's capital, and the JAGS McCartney International Airport are located on Grand Turk Island. It is the largest island in the archipelago and its administrative, financial, historical, and cultural center. The island's name comes from a cactus recognizable by a cap reminiscent of an Ottoman fez. Since the area is not too big, you can go anywhere on foot, but it is better to rent a car if you have only a day for sightseeing.
If you enjoy pristine beaches, discovering wetlands, and snorkeling, Grand Turk is the right place for you to stay. You should also visit St Mary's Anglican Church, Her Majesty's Prison, and Victoria Library in Cockburn Town. Don’t miss visiting the National Museum and learn something about the Taino peoples, ship salvaging, and the Molasses Reef Wreck. If you are romantic, walk to the elegant Grand Turk Lighthouse built-in 1852, the only one on the Turks and Caicos.
