Summary

  • The Rocky franchise is exclusively available on Max, with Creed III streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
  • The Creed movies can be rented or bought on Amazon Prime Video, with each film offering different options.
  • Amazon Prime Video rentals last for 30 days and have a one-week viewing window, while purchases have no time limits.

The Rocky franchise now includes nine movies, but not all of them are available to stream, and many wonder, is Rocky on Netflix? Sylvester Stallone's 1976 Rocky was the start of a franchise that would continue to release new movies for over four decades — and continues today, with Rocky multiple spin-offs and other projects in development. The nine films are a mixed bag, with some hitting all the right notes, while other entries less so, though they all make for entertaining viewing. Stallone headlined the majority of the films, until passing the torch to Michael B. Jordan in 2015's Creed.

With Creed III, the Rocky franchise now spans 9 movies and 6 decades. We rank every film in the boxing movie series to find the champion.

With such a huge franchise, it's not uncommon to see the Rocky films spread out across different streaming services, which is the case here. While some franchises will end up entirely on one streaming service, the rights for larger (and much longer-running) franchises are not always straightforward. However, streaming service catalogs are constantly changing, so while these represent the US streaming options at time of publication, this may change in the future.

The Rocky Movies Are Streaming On Max

The Entire Original Franchise Is One One Streaming Service

The entire series of Rocky movies is available to stream on Max (not including the Creed series). Previously, the Rocky franchise was available to stream on Netflix, however, it was announced in September 2023 that the series would be leaving the streamer (via The Direct), although at the time, Rocky and Rocky II were also available on Amazon Prime. (They have since left that service as well.) It seems that Max picked up the franchise, and is now the only streaming home of these six movies.

The films chart the story of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), from the scrappy underdog in the first film, through his struggles to become a world-class boxer, lose his 'eye of the tiger' and find it again, take the fight to Russia, retire with brain damage, and finally, return to boxing one last time in Rocky Balboa. While boxing is the focal point of the franchise, Rocky's family and his desire to make it in the world and provide for them is what truly brings the human element to the rest of the series.

The Creed Movies Are All Available To Rent Or Buy On Amazon Prime Video

Only One Creed Movie Is Available On A Major Streaming Service

While all of the Rocky movies are available to stream on Max, the Creed movies are not quite as easy to find. Creed is not currently streaming anywhere, while Creed II is not available on any of the major streamers — although it can be watched on TNT, a smaller subscription service. Creed III is, however, available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and the rest of the series is available to rent or buy on the same service.

While not as cost-effective as having a movie included in an Amazon Prime Video subscription, renting from the service can be a great way to watch movies that are not available to stream.

When renting a movie on the service, users have 30 days to start watching (from the day of rental), but only one week to finish watching the film once it has been started. For Rocky fans who don't want the time constraints of a rental, it is also possible to buy the Creed movies on Amazon Prime Video or AppleTV, which is more expensive than renting but allows any number of rewatches and comes with no time limits.

The Creed series begins with the son of the original Creed stepping into the ring, to be trained by none other than Rocky Balboa. It continues in the sequel with Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) taking on the son of Ivan Drago, who killed Apollo in the ring in 1985. The most recent installment, Creed III takes the series in a new direction, becoming the first film to lose Stallone himself (he is referenced, but does not appear), focusing entirely on Adonis Creed and his new opponent.
