With Christmas upon us, Netflix has released a new Christmas rom com with Hollywood star Brook Shields, A Castle For Christmas.
Released on 26 November, the film follows an American best-selling author, Sophie Brown (played by Ms Shields) who after finding herself in a scandal, travels to Scotland.
Upon her arrival, she finds herself falling in love with, and subsequently buying a Scottish castle after she finds out it’s for sale.
However, a Scottish duke named Myles (the Duke of Dunbar) who owns the castle is reluctant to sell his property to a foreigner and locks horns with the American author. The duke does everything he can to deter her from buying the property.
After the duke refuses to leave the castle, the pair constantly butt heads. But with the spirit of Christmas in the air, they unexpectedly find themselves building a budding romance.
Audiences will find themselves in awe of the mesmerising Scottish surroundings Sophie finds herself in.
Here’s a rundown of all the different locations A Castle For Christmas is filmed in.
Where was ‘A Castle For Scotland’ filmed?
It will come as no surprise to find out that the film was actually filmed in Scotland.
Filmed in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, a large slice of the filming took place in the capital, Edinburgh, including its airport where Brooke’s character Sophie arrives at the beginning of the film.
The cast also spent a lot of time getting footage and photographs material in West Edinburgh, Queensferry, at a 19th century gothic mansion known as Delmany House and which offers views of the Firth of Forth.
Delmany House, although not a castle, is used as Dunbar Castle – the castle Sophie visits and falls in love with.
Making their way to East Lothian known for its gorgeous castles and Scottish beaches, the cast filmed at Tantallon Castle which has become a tourist attraction.
Tantallon Castle overlooks the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock, and is the ruin of a once-magnificent fortress built by William, Earl of Douglas, and dates back to the 1300s.
A luxurious hotel known as Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry also features in the film.
What do the Scots think?
The film has unfortunately been met with scathing reviews from those who reside in Scotland.
The official Netflix account on Twitter has described the film as “the most accurate depiction of Scotland ever seen on screen.”
But Scots quickly expressed their response to the film on social media which by and large, were predominantly negative.
