Who are Madrigals?

Before we discuss each member of the Madrigals family, let’s briefly go over the family’s history. Pedro Madrigal (Husband) and Alma Madrigal (Wife) were forced to leave home fifty years before the film.

The couple fled the attackers with refugees and newborn children, but the attackers finally caught up to them. In an attempt to confront the attackers, Pedro Madrigal was murdered. However, his death caused the candle, the one he gifted to Alma, imbued with magic.

The candle dispatched the attackers, and the magic formed a sentient house and mountains in the area. Now, here’s a bit more about the characters in Encanto. Which one do you think you would be?

Mirabel

Mirabel is a quirky and imperfect, but emphatic and emotional fifteen-year-old girl. She is the only member of the Madrigal family that doesn't have magical abilities. When the miracle begins to fade, she makes it her responsibility to save the magic. In the process, she learns about the troubled past of her family.

Bruno

Bruno is Mirabel's uncle, who is capable of seeing the future. Bruno's original name was Oscar, but it was later changed. Bruno is from a set of fraternal triplets and the only male triplet.

After Mirabel is unable to receive magical abilities, Bruno sees visions of the future to discover why his niece didn't receive magical powers.

Camilo

Camilo is a supporting character in the film and is the middle child of Felix and Pepe. Carmelo is Mirabel's cousin and is a few months older than her. Camilo is someone who hasn't yet realized his potential. He has shapeshifting abilities, and he uses them to mock his family members. Camilo is still growing in the film and is exploring different personas.

Isabela

Isabela is the older sister of Mirabel and Luisa and is capable of growing flowers. Due to her flower-growing abilities, she is often seen as a perfectionist by her family members. Isabela has an entitled personality, and that often annoys Mirabel.

In the film, Isabela is about to be engaged to Mariano Guzman, a neighbor. However, the night before the engagement, Mirabel mistakenly reveals the last prophecy through Bruno. This left Isabela enraged and could destroy the miracle of magic gifted to the family.

Dolores

Dolores is another supporting character in Encanto and is the eldest child of Felix and Pepa Madrigal. Dolores has been gifted the ability to hear anything. Dolores is also the cousin of Mirabel and the older sister of Antonio and Camilo. In the film, Dolores is described as quiet-natured and sings or speaks as low as a whisper.

Dolores hates being the center of attention and likes staying in the background. Dolores also has the habit of revealing secrets, even if that is not her intention. Dolores has also experienced a few moments of weakness and stress.
