Six NFL teams do not have cheerleaders.
The Buffalo Bills endorsed the Buffalo Jills, until several cheerleaders sued both the Jills and the Bills. The Jills then ended their operations. The Bills now use a drumline, "The Stampede," to entertain the crowd.
When Chicago Bears owner George Halas died in 1983, new owner Virginia Halas McCaskey, George's daughter, sought to end the Chicago Honey Bears, the team's cheerleading squad. When their contract expired after Super Bowl XX, McCaskey didn't renew it.
While the Green Bay Packers don't have an official cheerleading team, they do use a collegiate squad to cheer at home games. The Packers stopped having their own squad after the 1977 season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were the first team to have a cheerleading squad, the Steelerettes, who cheered for the team in the 1960s. But since the group disbanded in 1969, the team hasn't had another squad.
The New York Giants and Cleveland Browns are the only NFL teams to never have cheerleaders. Both have unofficial spirit squads who support the team.
