Who owns Arby's?By Zippia Team - Jul. 28, 2022Inspire Brands and Roark Capital Group own Arby's. The two companies are the parent organizations of Arby's. Inspire Brands is an American holding company and the owner and franchiser of many food industry companies, such as Arby's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Sonic Drive-In, Jimmy John's, Rusty Taco, and others.
Roark Capital Group acquired 81.5% of Arby's Restaurant Group in July 2011 and is now a majority owner of Inspire Brands.
Arby's was founded in Boardman, Ohio in July of 1964 by brothers Forrest and Leroy Raffel. Arby's initially only served roast beef sandwiches, potato chips, and soft drinks.
During the 1970s, the expansion of Arby's took place at a rate of 50 stores per year. During this time, it developed several new menu items, including the beef 'n cheddar, jamocha shake, chicken sandwiches, curly fries, and two signature sauces, Arby's sauce and horsey sauce.
The family-owned business tried converting into a public company in 1970 by offering the sale of stock, but the IPO never went through when the stock market subsequently fell. In 1976, the family sold the company to Royal Crown Cola Company for $18 million, and Leroy Raffel remained as CEO until his retirement three years later.
Today, Arby's boasts over 3500 locations. These are predominantly in the United States, but the company also has restaurants in Canada, Mexico, Egypt, South Korea, and Turkey. Paul Brown is the current CEO of Arby's. In 2019, Arby had an annual revenue of $3.884 billion with a workforce of over 80,000 employees.
