Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola are beloved sodas that you’ll often see sold side by side.

Because of this, many people get confused between the brands and are unsure who actually owns the different (but just as delicious) Dr. Pepper. So who exactly does own Dr. Pepper?

Dr. Pepper is owned by an entirely different brand – the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. This is a brand that is older than Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

Who Owns Dr. Pepper?

There are a few reasons why Dr. Pepper has been able to avoid the grip of these two soda goliaths, but it’s mostly because of the unique taste and history of the brand that has caused people to keep coming back.

Dr. Pepper is actually one of the oldest soft drinks in the entire U.S.A.

What Is The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group?

Dr. Pepper Snapple Group is a collection of different sodas that are banded together to protect their brand integrity and unique flavors.

Some of the other popular drinks in this group are Snapple, 7UP, Hawaiian Punch, A&W Root Beer, and RC Cola.

This group was originally known as the Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, but there were some big changes in 2008 to create what we have today.

This is just one of a long list of brands and owners that Dr. Pepper has had over the years – but for the most part, the integrity and taste of the drink have stayed the same.

Have Pepsi Or Coke Tried To Buy Dr. Pepper?

One thing you’ll probably notice is that Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, and Coca-Cola are all rivals because they’re different types of cola.

Whilst Pepsi and Coca-Cola taste quite similar, Dr. Pepper has a very different taste and is beloved for it.

That’s not to say the other brands haven’t tried to acquire it. Actually, back in the 1980s both Pepsico and Coca-Cola have tried to buy Dr. Pepper for large sums of money – with Coca-Cola putting in a bid of $470 million dollars!

This never ended up happening, however, and Dr. Pepper is now part of a larger conglomerate of beverages that exist as an alternative to Pepsico and Coca-Cola.

It’s not clear if this is a good thing or not, but one thing we can say for certain is that each beverage company has come a long way from their humble beginnings as small, family businesses back in the day.
