Two years ago, 18 chefs came to Las Vegas to compete for the title of head chef at Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris Las Vegas on Hell’s Kitchen: Young Guns. Season 20 of the show filmed in Las Vegas and all of the competitors from across the nation were age 24 or under at the time of filming. Now a new chef takes the crown.

Three chefs went into the two-part finale: Kiya Wilhem, Megan Gill, and Trent Garvey. All had to make a five-course meal, with one eliminated for a two-person showdown in the final episode.

Trent Garvey, who was 23 when he started filming the show, won the title and $250,000 in a two-hour finale that aired on September 13. The chef from Maplewood, Missouri, outside of St. Louis is the executive chef at Blue Duck, a neighborhood tavern known for its comfort food and sandwiches.

Host Gordon Ramsay, who has five restaurants in Las Vegas, said Garvey is “everything I could want in a protege,” after his win. Garvey in turn proposed to his girlfriend.

“I’m only the second contestant from Missouri in 20 seasons of Hell’s Kitchen. To win something like this would be life-changing,” Garvey said before the show aired. He was on hand at Big B’s Texas BBQ in the southwest for a watch party, joining fellow contestants Antonio Ruiz, Emily Hersh, Wilhem, Gill, and Victoria Sonora at the restaurant.

Gill and Wilhem made it to the top three, with Gill facing off against Garvey for the finale. Each chose four former contestants to help make that final dinner. Gill went with elevated Texas flavors, while Garvey cooked Southern fare, focusing on his youth spent in Arkansas.

Garvey is the second Hell’s Kitchen winner to take on the role of head chef at Gordon Ramsay Steak. Christina Wilson won the title in Season 10, and is now the vice president of culinary for Gordon Ramsay North America.
