Grey's Anatomy welcomed Dr Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez) in series two. She was the former head of orthopedic surgery and board member at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. While she was a valued member of the team on the ABC series, Callie's time to leave came four years ago.

What happened to Callie Torres in Grey's Anatomy?

Callie was single when she first arrived at the hospital but quickly grew closer to Dr George O'Malley (T.R. Knight).

They started to get to know one another after she helped treat his dislocated shoulder and Callie gave George her number.

Callie and George got married in Las Vegas and fans were thrilled with the pairing.

However, George soon cheated on his wife which led to the end of their marriage.

Following their split, Callie started finding out more about her own sexual orientation.

After a night out with Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) Callie discovered she had feelings for her colleague and they started dating, despite her father's disapproval.

This didn't work out either but in season five, Callie had her first kiss with Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), thus beginning their love affair.

Callie and Arizona got married and had daughter Sofia Robbin Sloan Torres together.

This wasn't meant to be either though as an incident caused the couple to be torn apart.

Arizona was involved in the devastating plane crash in season eight which saw the deaths of Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane).

While she survived the tragedy, Arizona's leg had to be amputated, leaving her devastated.

This put a strain on her and Callie's marriage and ended up being a key reason for their divorce.

A couple of seasons later and Callie introduced her new girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan) who was moving to New York.

Penny asked if Callie and daughter Sofia would join her in NYC.

Arizona was furious at first at the idea of Callie taking their daughter away but in the end, agreed to the move.

Callie left at the end of series 12 with Penny and Sofia and has not been in the series since.

She was later joined by her ex-wife though in season 14 when Arizona left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as well.

Sofia was visiting her mum Arizona in Seattle when she admitted she didn't want to go back to New York.

Arizona was eager to spend more time with her daughter and so decided to move there to be closer to her.

Callie had also broken up with Penny before arriving in the Big Apple so does this mean the former wives are back together?
