Why did Davina leave Selling Sunset?

If you watched any of the seasons of the Netflix show, you’ll know that Davina Potratz stirred the pot with several of her costars. Were these strong personalities part of why she left? Or was it just for a better opportunity?

Davina Potratz Left the Oppenhim Group – But Why?

In season 2, there was some debate between Davina and her boss, Jason Oppenheim, about the Sen mansion he felt was way overpriced. Adnan Sen is a Turkish property developer specializing in luxury spaces. And Davina Potratz had a history with him.

She’d done some condo buying and selling with him before. So, Davina felt like it was a good move. The home was on a full acre (wow), and had seven bedrooms and four bathrooms in its 18,000 square feet of living space. Plus, there’s a guesthouse with two more of each.

On Selling Sunset, Davina was pleased to get the listing, and it would have been the biggest Oppenheim Group sale — if she’d made it happen. From the jump, Jason knew the asking price was too high. So much so that it still hadn’t sold by Season 3 (or now).

When Jason pushed back on Davina about the listing price, she threw out threats to leave and start her own firm. She didn’t set up her own shop. Instead, she accepted an invitation to a rival firm — Douglas Elliman.

At the time, Davina called it a “business decision” and said she “didn’t want to leave” Oppenheim. She said Jason was sad but understanding when she let him know she was making a move. In an official statement, he said he wanted the best for her.

Two New Agents Brought in to Replace Potratz and Quinn on Selling Sunset

At the same time Davina Potratz left the real estate firm, co-star Christine Quinn also stepped back. Christine got married and was expecting her first child. The O Group hired Vanessa Villela and Emma Hernan to replace Davina and Christine.

But that doesn’t mean those two divas were gone for good. Most fans fully expected not to see either in Season 4. While they wondered why Davina left Selling Sunset and its featured firm, they were excited to see the Netflix series return.

In the S4 trailer, Jason said, “since Davina left,” he hired a new agent and introduced Vanessa. And then he said that Emma would cover Christine’s listings. In a blink and miss it moment, Davina Potratz walked through the doors of the brokerage, dropping jaws.

Her appearance in the trailer was small. But, her impact as a member of the cast on the fourth season was not so subtle. In an interview, Davina said Jason didn’t want her to leave and asked her to come back. But that’s not something that aired.

She said it looked on Selling Sunset like she was asking to return. But Davina insists it was a “joint decision” as Jason Oppenheim asked her to return to his brokerage.

Why Did Davina Leave Selling Sunset?

Gearing up for Season 5, it’s essential to understand the dynamics. When Davina Potratz planned to return, Jason first talked to the other ladies. One that was hesitant about it was Chrishell Stause. She and Davina had issues during Stause’s divorce.

Davina often seemed to take the side of Chrishell’s ex, Justin Hartley, without context or justification. When criticized, she tended to push back, saying there are two sides to every split. But why prod a coworker when she’s in distress?

Heather Young and Mary Fitzgerald also weren’t so sure about her return. One big issue was Davina’s closeness to Selling Sunset‘s Christine Quinn. The show’s villain. It’s an issue given Quinn’s nonstop diva antics and aggressive personality.

Davina Potratz insists she saw Chrishell before the big return-to-office scene, and the vibe was friendly. She says with cameras there, though, the vibe was more chilly. But she also insists she felt terrible for hurting her co-workers when she struggled with the split.

So, she came into Season 4 trying to make things less awkward as she wanted to sit at her Oppenheim desk again. For her part, Davina did pretty well easing back into things. But her pal and fellow returnee Quinn made everything rougher.

Season 4 Disaster as Davina Tried to Make Things Better

By the end of Selling Sunset Season 4, Davina Potratz wanted to deflate the tension between Christine and the other ladies. But despite her best efforts, Quinn showed up three hours late to the big season-ending party.

She brought her hubby — and a chip on her shoulder. What could have been a moment to make peace turned into an explosive confrontation. No doubt we’ll see more on the fallout on the next Netflix season of the show.

One thing Davina Potratz says won’t be seen in Season 5 is her personal life. She doesn’t want cameras in that part of her life — just on her real estate career.

So why did Davina leave Selling Sunset? She left the firm but never left the show. She’s been present for most episodes over all the Netflix seasons. She left the firm for an opportunity but then came back.

Whether it was for the small business vibe she says she preferred — or whether it was to stay on reality TV is a valid question. Maybe we’ll find out more as Season 5 kicks off.
