Does Macbeth Go Beyond English Speaking Cultures? Is Macbeth a Virgin? Why did Shakespeare decide to write about Macbeth to an English King?

Although William Shakespeare was fond of creating plays, writing poetry and the like, the issue being presented here is why, of all things to present as a play to the King of England (16th century), would it be about a Scot, Macbeth (11th century)?

Quite a revelation came up when searching for this topic. Both of which were attributed to the history of both Scotland and England and not completely from Shakespeare who may have thought of it at a whim. Shakespeare may have thought of Macbeth through and through before deciding that the public see it.

First, King James was a Scot. Back in the 11th and 12th century, petty wars between England and Scotland over the countries’ boundaries riddled the lands of both nations. Eventually, King James assumed the throne, thus uniting the two nations about 500 years later.

Witchcraft, during the time of King James and Shakespeare, was considered as an interesting, yet daunting belief that attracted many people. Most speculations related to witchcraft, sorcery, magic, witches, were usually that off old hags able to create objects out of thin air. This was accepted as an impossible act of the demons and against the forces of nature. As a natural instinct, this was perceived as dangerous.

Shakespeare may have taken into consideration these two. Using both history and a particular topic of interest of the king may have struck Shakespeare as a source of inspiration into creating the play, Macbeth.
