Link: Why do I get really hungry when I’m sick? – Yahoo! Answers

Granted Yahoo! Answers is usually a big crap shoot. (And Googling for any kind of “medical” advice leads you to think that that stomach pain means you’re either pregnant or have cancer, but this answer to why you can get really hungry when you’re sick seems to make sense to me:

“When you are sick your body responds with inflammation to help heal itself. In response to the inflammation the body produces cortisol which then raises your blood sugar. Your body then produces more insulin to take the sugar into the cell. You then get hungry because you body needs more sugar (complex carbs). Its a vicious cycle and am sorry to say have been there also. They say feed a cold and starve a fever. But its a myth.”

Hi! I'm Theodora. I started this blog to talk about weight loss, but now I talk about mental health, grief, fitness and how diet culture is BS. I'm real fun at parties.
