Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered Have a friend who tells the same story over and over in the same one sided conversation. The person does not come up for air or let the other person talk at all. Why ? suman kumar Profile suman kumar answered People generally repeat the words when they lack confidence in what they talk. Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered Yea I like saying the odd few things too myself and making myself laugh naw and again, but a family member of mine sits in the kitchen and waffles on and on to himself about absolute nonsense.. Which I really can't get my head around, and I find a bit disturbing.. But then when you walk in the room he will suddenly cough and act normal.....ish, he also has poor social skills and repeats himself terribly tellin the same story or joke day after day week after week, is their a medically recognised condition for these symptoms I wonder!!?? Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered I seem to be forgetting what I just said at times, which makes me repeat myself. I hate it. Am I going nuts? Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered Some people just have poor social skills. They may not even realize that they are talking too much, too loud, repeating themselves or dominating the entire conversation. You could try to politely tell them this. Or just walk away. They'll get the hint. rachel bourg Profile rachel bourg answered Maybe he has a slight form of obsessive compulsive disorder maybe that's why he repeats himself.a lot of people I've caught talking to themselves so I feel this is perfectly normal behavior. Jacquelyn Mathis Profile Jacquelyn Mathis answered Can you say COO-COO? LOL Just kidding around, my man does that too, but usually when he is drinking, sometimes sober, I don't know what makes people do this, but after a long time hearing it, you become a little less inhibited, and are more likely to tell them that they are doing this. If and when you do this, talk politely about it, and see if he might try to correct it. Hope this helps, good luck. Mike Profile Mike answered Same here with me. It's just weird... Someone close to me is very repetitive especially after some drinks. She dominates every conversation and the stories are always about something where she always is the victor. I've known her forever. I recently have sat back and just let it unfold in front of my eyes.. These people are merely the most insecure of anyone that you know. It's something, that you the annoyed one, will never relate to nor understand. Then there are those that relate and identify because they too are insecure. It's a validation of their own character, rather than just being themselves they have to reiterate how great they are and show how important they are. It's also true they don't realize they are doing these things. You can be a friend and lend an ear, remove yourself, or sit them down one on one and address it in a friendly manner. Making comments toward their behavior does no good. And then theres some people that just love to hear themselves because they are the definition of vain to the fullest. And perhaps a little of both..

Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered I know some one that repeats the same part over and over like 10 times in like one conversation and I want to know why too. It gets annoying. Christy Wrightway Profile Christy Wrightway answered I know that I do this sometimes, and I simply want to make sure I am being heard. Sometimes my boss gives me direction, but she gets caught in a loop, repeating the instructions for me over and over again. I have resolved this situation by butting in to repeat the instructions and then move on to the next point. She seems genuinely thankful that I helped her move the conversation along.

I wish that conversation and public speaking skills were taught to everyone in school. It is embarrassing and challenging to be around people with poor speaking skills.

I talk to myself.

Anonymous Profile Anonymous answered I think anyone can repeat themselves once in a while or forget whether you have told a story to a friend before. I guess that people that repeat themselves a lot or seem to be a broken record may have condition, emotional or developmental disorder. I don't think they can help themselves. As to talking to yourself, I think most people do some of this, kind of thinking out loud. When I am stressed and running late, I repeatedly say "Okay" to myself out loud, gives me some sense of being calm and on top the situation I guess. I know I'm doing it and laugh about it :) suman kumar Profile suman kumar answered It is because they want to clearly say. Steven Vakula Profile Steven Vakula answered Sometime people do this while solving problems or completing a task and is a characteristic more of the means to finalize and accomplish a task as opposed to dementia. The self-conversation a lot of time is something that they are aware of and if asked do recognize that it happens. Sort of like telling a tire that it needs to be changed. It is tantamount to telling the task what needs to be done not that the task can be accomplished by itself but a personal means of instruction.
