Ever since ROTJ, in all the novels I've read, whenever he is mentioned, he's always in black, whether it's his flight suit, jedi robes, etc. just curious.

The other questionis does he still wear a glove on his right hand. Since he got it repaired it shouldnt need one.

Mara likes a man that reminds her of the old Massa.

It could just be that he likes black clothing. His dad seemed to like it as well. Anakin appeared to like wearing the dark clothing as well. It could be due to growing on Tatooine. Such a hot planet, they'd have to wear anything but black if they wanted to stay cool and maybe they both were making up for lost time with wearing cloths that are black.

Another possibility is that he is used to Tatoonie's hot climate. In environments others find comfortable, he finds cold. Wearing black would help keep him warm.

There is another possibility that works. I remember in Episode 1, Anakin was saying he was cold on Padme's ship. After living on Tatooine he would be cold and used to the heat. I can see the same with Luke.

And plus, black makes a person look slimmer. He doesn't want people thinking he's getting all fat on them, ya know?

Clearly Luke is a Marilyn Manson wannabe. This is explained in no uncertain terms in Crossdress Prime.

True, old guys DO get the tire, no matter how much they work out. Daddy had a little tummy, too. Check out ROTJ in the first DSII scene. That is the firstt hing I thought as a kid: Vader likes his yummies.

He's in perpetual mourning for Biggs, they were "special friends".

As Han said in the Union comic book Issue #2 - He always thought Luke wore black because he dressed in the dark!

In ROTJ he dressed in black because he was close going to the dark side, like his dad in AOTC and ROTS. Isn´t that the standard answer? But I like it that he continues to dress in black in the EU. Too often the way people dress are used to indicate are they good or bad. Luke breaks the cliché. He´s a good guy who dresses like a bad guy. In the Swarm War cover he looks nothing like your standard good guy and that´s fine for me. Outer appearances are misleading and the way Luke dresses is an example of this.

DeJade_Vu, Jul 20, 2005 #16
Other possibilities for why he wears black: 1. It looks hot. 2. It doesn't show stains. 3. He dresses in the dark.
That's cute. 4. He can hide in the shadows from enemies, and then jump at them and freak them out. 5. It looks REALLY hot. -

So he doesn't have to ask Mara, "Honey, does this shirt go with these pants?"

Hides the dirt better. Luke tends to be a bit clumsy. Mara insists he drink out of a sippy cup with a lid, but it doesn't always help.

Guys, I hate to break it to you, but Luke's color blind. Yes, he really thought his second lightsaber WAS blue. . . and forget stoplights! Sadly, however, as we've noted in the NJO, Luke cannot admit to anything, and in order to make it seem as though his sight was perfect, he wears black all the time to avoid possibly disastrous matching mistakes. He's also nearsighted, which is why he looks like he's concentrating all the time. . .notice, there aren't any glasses in the GFFA! Poor guy!

I could discorse my opinions on this alone for half an hour, but you'll find nearly all comic and book writers have their cast wearingthe exact same apparel for decades. Redemption is the only one that burps to mind where Silvar wore 4 different garbs.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Luke wears black in RoTJ because at the time thats how Lucas envisioned the formal attire of the Jedi.

Luke is really due for a new look, and his character should evolve with his age. His look really has been stagnant for over a decade now. I would love to see him have a completely new appearance in Legacy of the Force. Perhaps with an Obi-Wan / Qui-Gon type beard, and wearing traditional Jedi robes.

Nah. He needs to make a big supreme appearance in a duel-to-end-all-duels wielding Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber wearing a pure white robe. In TUF-style kick...heiny mode.

Union has a very wide variety of clothing for the various characters involved. Even a number of direct mentions of clothing

Union doesn't really count, it's not like he wouldn't wear a suit of some sort.
