Ever wonder why everytime you walk in the door your normally alpha dog rolls over and shows your her belly? When a dog presents her belly and neck in this situation, she's expressing an ancestral trait rooted in wolf pack behavior that was used to communicate deference to other “alpha” dogs. Since that pack mentality likely isn't present in her modern day life, she's now looking to you as the pack leader. Here are five reasons that will help you understand why your dog shows you her belly.  #1. Because they love and trust youHappy dogs who show you their belly when you return home may be doing their best to let you know that they adore you. The entire body is relaxed and they're in their most submissive posture waiting for some love.  #2. Because they respect you and want you to know itHierarchy means everything in the canine world. By purposely exposing her vulnerable underbelly, your dog is communicating to you that she comes in peace and recognized your alpha authority.  #3. Because they love their bellies rubbedDogs' bellies are very sensitive and their belly is the one place they normally can't reach on their own. This is a sign of trust in you and it feels great for them!  #4. To air outAlthough dogs attempt to regulate their body temperature by panting, some may park themselves next to circulating fans or air conditioner vents on hot days to catch the cool breeze on their bellies where there tends to be less hair in an attempt to cool down.  #5. Because they feel totally safeConfident adult dogs in their own homes roll on their backs and get into a relaxed posture when taking naps – usually on the sofa or your bed. She always asks for belly rubs and sticks with me closer than any pet I’ve had. Just love her so much already.Leave a commentYour nameEmailComment0/250media-picker-iconAdd photo(s) of your petoptionalSubmit commentRelated articlesPet parentingBombay Cats – breed guide and fabulous factsOCT 23, 2024 | 4 min readPet parentingThe Guide to Owning a Cocker Spaniel PuppyOCT 23, 2024 | 3 min readPet parentingHow to Travel Safely with Your PetOCT 18, 2024 | 5 min readPet parentingBucket List Ideas for DogsOCT 17, 2024 | 9 min readPet parentingTop 20 Most Popular Dog BreedsAUG 06, 2024 | 10 min readPet parentingMost Aggressive Dog BreedsAUG 06, 2024 | 8 min readPet parenting10 Popular Fluffy Dog BreedsAUG 06, 2024 | 5 min readPet parentingTop 10 Medium Dog BreedsAUG 06, 2024 | 5 min readPet parentingDoodle Dogs — 10 of the Most Popular Types of DoodlesAUG 06, 2024 | 6 min readPet parentingTop 10 Wrinkly Dog BreedsAUG 06, 2024 | 7 min readPet parentingBiggest Dog Breeds — Everything You Need To KnowAUG 05, 2024 | 7 min readPet parenting10 French Dog Breeds — Everything You Need To KnowJUL 30, 2024 | 7 min readPet parenting10 Japanese Dog Breeds — Everything You Need To KnowJUL 30, 2024 | 6 min readPet parentingPuppy Bowl 2024: Where to Watch, How to Celebrate & MoreJAN 19, 2024 | 8 min readPet parentingHalloween Safety Tips for Pet CostumesOCT 05, 2023 | 4 min readPet parentingWag!
