Why Does Shania Twain Live In Switzerland?

I watched a few minutes of a television show about this country music superstar. Besides being a great looking lady, she also has talent and a lot of success in the music business. But I am wondering why she lives in Montreaux, Switzerland? Is it to avoid fans? Is her husband Swiss? I thought country music people are required to live in Nashville or Memphis. Ms. Twain is a Canadian! She came from a near-poverty background in rural Ontario to become a music star. I think her husband is a UK citizen. I think like other rich cleleberties, they find the privacy from overzelous fans, security and perhaps the financial benefits (like private bank accounts) of Switzerland and like places to be very good. She also has a child so probably adds to her desire for security. Maybe she likes being in a really beautiful, peaceful, small city/borderline rural place. I'd say my second greatest passion, after aviation, is Shania...so I've got this one all tied down for y'all... Shania moved to Switzerland in the late 1990s after living in upstate New York with her husband/producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The two found that they did not have enough privacy there: Mutt's a renowned recluse, while Shania wanted a place where she could get out of the public spotlight when she wasn't touring and doing promotional work. (In fact, she has a deal with her record label that her records are not promoted in Switzerland.) She says that while people know who she is, everyone's very low-key. I think it must be due to the fact that they have lots of celebrities in and around her home in Tour-de-Peilz, including Tina Turner and Phil Collins. Also, she likes the fact that it's "so much like Canada", which is true in many senses. (I'm sure there are also certain tax benefits, too.) AirlinerFreak is right: She does maintain a home outside of Timmins, Ontario, where she grew up, and she recently bought a $20 million land reserve in New Zealand where she plans to raise sheep. Also, regarding Stretch 8's comment, "I thought country music people are required to live in Nashville or Memphis", I'd say that Shania truly isn't just a country artist anymore – she's an international superstar with recognition worldwide. Her career is truly global, so she doesn't necessarily need to be anywhere specific – she can pretty much pick and choose what she does. Hope that helps! Privacy, security, excellent international school for childrens, beautiful city and area and... taxe benefits of course ! As others celebrities living in the canton of Vaud : Phil Collins who lives in Begnins, Michael Schumacher lives in Vufflens-le-Château, Alain Prost. Other frenchies like Alain Delon, Isabel Adjani and Jean Alesi live in Geneva. And many others... almost for the same reasons as mentioned above.
