Oh Soo-Jae (Seo Hyun-Jin) is a lawyer, talented enough to become the youngest partner at TK Law Firm. The law firm is widely considered as the best in South Korea. Oh Soo-Jae is driven by her desire to win cases and also her self-righteous principles. She has lived her life to achieve success, but she gets involved in an unexpected case and she gets demoted to work as an adjunct professor at a law school.
At the law school, Oh Soo-Jae meets Gong Chan (Hwang In-Yeop). He is a student there. Gong Chan has experienced a painful past, but he still has a warm heart. He falls in love with Oh Soo-Jae and he would do anything for her.
Meanwhile, Choi Tae-Guk (Heo Jun-Ho) is the chairman of TK Law Firm. He would do anything to satisfy his desires, even if it's illegal or immoral.

Nov 10 2025 7:24 pm I tried to watch this series until the end, but I couldn't. The romance between Oh Soo-Jae and Gong Chan/Kim Dong-Goo is so absurd and annoying that I gave up on episode 13 without regret.

Jul 06 2024 2:46 pm I enjoyed how the drama began and had high expectations. what i could not wrap my head around was the pace of the romance between the male and female leads, i found the elevator scene confession soo corny and why did everybody act like the pace and dynamics of the relationship between the leads was normal ? i enjoyed the plot twists and overall storyline and i thought the FL would quit law but it was quite interesting how she ended up resolving the complexities and considering the atrocities Tae Guk had commited, i genuinely hoped he would get a chance to be seated at a public hearing or at least be arrested quicker. An 8/10 movie , i loved the attention to Soo Jae's wardrobe and her acting is impeccable as well as Tae Guk's , I think these two actors stood out a lot , and of course Jae yi

Nov 19 2022 10:17 am Read This Comment<3 I know some of you think the Romance here was a bit awkward and lame... But to be Honest, it fits perfectly with the story, I mean seriously... It they were to have the ROMANCE that we expected... then it would be more awkward as it doesn't fit their character.
Overview:The male Lead Character (Gong Chan) went through living hell as he was convicted of rape and murder (of his Stepsister) that he didn't commit, because of three rich idiots.
Everyone believed that he's the culprit except his rookie lawyer, Oh Soo Jae (The Female Lead Character). She believe that Gong Chan is innocent and did everything she could to help him but sadly she failed in court and Gong Chan went to prison.
Years later, they met again as student and professor. Oh Soo Jae (Professor) didn't recognize him but Gong Chan knew it was her, (the lawyer who believed in him when no one did).Their relationship started to develop very slowly as it should be, because if they were to start dating and be more romantic with each other... then it Doesn't Go Well With The Story. And besides, the investigation of Gong Chan's Stepsister murder case should be the priority of this Drama!!! Overall, this Drama is so good and highly recommended.
Hwang In Yeop who played the Male Lead Character did a really good job and was perfect for this role since the character "Gong Chan" is a university student with a warm heart and not much of a romantic type because of his dark past, but awkwardly falls in love with his professor... and Hwang In Yeop played this role really well.
Nov 03 2022 8:46 pm Just finished watching this drama last night. Overall I enjoyed, but the ending was so-so.. like, how about the trio bad sons? They must have punishment! And CTG ending ... i kind of dissatisfied. he must do responsible for his sins before he died. :/ Honestly, I kinda ship OSJ with Yoon Se Pil from SP Partners. I find that he become ideal partner for OSJ than Gong Chan. But OSJ feels like a happy person if she is with Gong Chan and that's ok for me. YSP just for her business partner. Kinda wish for more romantic scenes though.. overall it's great drama. Thank you for the hard work !
Sep 01 2022 11:17 pm Great drama, great story, great acting, especially SHJ, but I just don't like the romance between the female and male leads, and don't like the age gap too. It would've been better if they're just student and professor, no romance involved. Or if the writer insists on the romance, they should do a better casting. Kim Beom, may be, as the main lead instead of HIY. I don't say that HIY is bad, he is cool too, but he looks too young compared to SHJ. Also, the 10 years younger Gong Chan/Kim Dong Gu looks older than HIY and how come the face is sooo different in only 10 years. Should look for more resemblance between actors whio play younger/older version.
Aug 28 2022 6:02 pm Best drama of the year!!! The cinematography, casting and acting are superb. The dialogue, scenes and location are done well. I enjoyed the characters and acting specially between Hyun Jin and her mother Lee Jong-Na ..it was perfect, no more no less. The lighting on the beach scene - night and early morning- are my favorite! Thank you for this drama...truly exciting and beautiful to watch. Love the story and creativie production of it!

Aug 25 2022 7:54 am The first 5 Episode was really great! like I was really in love with the characters including her assistant miss song. But later on its kinda boring some of my friends told me that ita really hard to continue to watch. But as avid fan of Seo hyun jin I really want it to finish but I got dissappointed. I was not satisfied with the ending. the 3 spoiled bratt was not able to pay their wrong doings. And the ending was soooo plain. but regardless I still love Seo hyun Jin and I am gonna watch her next drama I hope it wont be like this. I really love her in Another miss Oh hae young. I can't wait to see her shining.

Heo jun ho did a superb job, his acting is so good i love it so much, the villian role is so well done.
Just a the bit disappointment is the ending, yaa it did felt a bit rush, and how all the mystery unfolded is kinda less satisfying i guess.
But overall a very good drama, love this.

After watching this drama and Melancholia i found out that Secretary Ha Il Koo is the kind of villain who reveal all the bad things that they've done right in the last episode, like the key is on him. Anyway, im a little bit disappointed with the ending :( choi tae kook doesn't deserve that peaceful death :-l . Then about Jae Yi nooooo my little angel from the first time she appears i do hope she won't be SJ daughter and become her weakness but at the same time i want Jae yi live happily with SJ then calling Chan appa LOL what a fanfiction haha that why it breaks my heart when jae yi die.

For villain that bad, im not happy with dying so easily by suicide. Also their sons aren’t put in bars. Even tho they not killing, they still guilty of rape case. Overall not bad, just still love SHJ more in Dr Kim. Pls do season 3

Jul 24 2022 9:43 am I am so shocked with all the good reviews. I feel all the viewers are biased to give a good review since all wanted hwang in yeop to be starred as a ML. It is an average or below average series. Story lost its touch in between and it becomes very cliche. If you like in yeop, you can watch this but it's not worth your time.

So far, I think Park Eun-bin, Suzy, Lee Jung-eun, and Kim Ji-won will be nominated for Best Actress award in the next awards season.

Poor writing. The story seemed to have lost its direction in the middle. Superb performance by Seo Hyun-jin and Heo Jun-ho. Heo Jun-ho's portrayal of Choi Tae-guk will probably earn him a supporting nomination in the next awards season. He even has a chance to win.

After finishing this drama, the conclusion I have is that it's a (very?) good drama with superb acting and good directing let down by poor/ lazy writing. the romantic parts would probably work well if not put inside the setting of a high tension legal thriller - seeing OSJ spar with CTK one episode then followed by GC dishing out corny noona romance lines to her the next is just... no. the ending was a bit rushed as well imo - team OSJ's turnabout purely depended on a bad guy turning good, and CTK's final fate is just lazy writing - I had slim hopes that the 119 EMTs manage to stop him from dying, having to spend the rest of his life as a powerless invalid/ vegetable instead - now that would've been justice. also we didnt get to know how Yoon Sang felt after his betrayal resulted in his father's death.

Jul 23 2022 11:48 pm I truly enjoyed this drama series. The acting was first rate and the plot was engaging. In other countries a successful series occasionally, though rarely, branches into more seasons. I can think of a Japanese forensic crime drama that lasted several seasons with Yasuko Sawaguchi as the central actor. I would really enjoy seeing these characters again as they mature under the tutelage Oh Soo Jae. Wishful thinking, I know.

Jul 19 2022 2:28 am This drama is good actually, the case, the lead woman role, the intrigue, but not with the bizzare love triangle. Just leave the love story out. You know, they have excellent cast but somehow the plot of love is weird.
Jul 18 2022 11:32 am I believe that the writer is trying to have their cake and eat it too by making the impossible seem possible with the romance of a student with no power to support her and OSJ being this unstoppable force against the three super villains and their spawns who seemed to be afraid of her.
Does the writer expect OSJ to be superwoman who can do everything on her own including protecting her defenceless and weak boyfriend against the big bad wolves that are out to get him. Especially when she herself is defenceless against them since she doesn’t come from wealth or have powerful family backing her and the only thing she has is blackmail as leverage.
The most likely partner was CEO of SP partners since he has the resources to make her plans into fruition and has the same goal as her. I believe having two younger guys as her love interest didn’t go so well as she is someone who is out of their leagues and both of them aren’t mature enough to take on the emotional baggage she carries.
Jul 18 2022 8:50 am why do I prefer Yoon Se Pil or Choi Ju Wan end up with Oh Soo Jae. Especially after the current episode:( I'm hoping CJW and OSJ along with Jae Yi would be a loving family. CJW seems like a good man trapped in a wrong friendship. Anyway the romance between gong chan and OSJ seems like being forced. I need more drama of Seo hyun jin.. and I'm hoping there would be another drama when ji Seung hyun will be the lead actor..
Jul 17 2022 1:59 pm I think the writers made a mistake by trying to create romance between SooJae and Gong Chan. There is very little chemistry. I think that process lost my interest. She is an accomplished attorney and he is just a student. The story line has two ways, romance or SooJae as the hero but they cannot do both! Yoon Se Pil looked like he was going to become a major role and disappeared. Romance with SePil would have been better than Gong Chan.
I am impressed with SooJae as an attorney and her abilities and of course, Seo HyunJin's acting skills are amazing. When the story got lost between romance and mystery, it gt confusing and you can tell by the ratings drop from it's high 10.1% to 7.0%. Now I think the 14th episode and what happened (spoiler) will bring ratings back up. But the writers should stay away from romance and more solving the mystery and taking down Choi Tae Guk.

Perhaps the writer and director tried to extract deeper emotional reaction from the viewers so that they concocted this unrealistic scene. No shooter will announce that he will shoot the intended victim.

This should give her a grand actress prize! Every cast members are very good. At first I wasn't too sure of the lead actor but his acting is good. I definitely recommend this drama to all!

@Ben: It was all Choi Tae Gook. He was the ohe putting SJ to jail and also the one arranging Han Gi Taek to confess to let SJ out. This is all because Chan and Yun Sang had the evidence (also the record of the three of them partying that was kept by Hong Seok Pal). So he had to change his plan. I guess his initial plan was to let SJ be in prison. On the police, I guess it is all about pride. He is just upset with the prosecutors taking over the investigation from them. So when there is a moment to bark, he barks, lol.

I thought it was a love story at first, but turns out, it became more of a mysterious law drama which catches my interest. Now I love both the ML and FL. I also hope that OSJ is'nt the mother of Jae yi, it'll be too painful to watch OSJ being miserable finding out. As for Gong Chan, i bet he is clinging to OSJ to find more clues for his sisters death. And he loved her because she is the only one who believed in him back then. They both need each other to take down the trio.

Charmain Choi was the one who manipulated all of that, remember when Chairman Choi asked HSP for all the evidence he have for all those assemblyman? Chairman Choi get that first then he told HSP to listen whatever Chief Ha's instruction. Bcs of the video of HSP it was the crucial evidence for OSJ to put in prison. And on how Osj managed to get out of the prison, it was bcs of the evidence that gather by LCC (the voice of OSJ was manipulated). For Han Gi Taek, it's shown that Chairman Choi told HGK to take the blame for some money.
Chairman Choi put all the blame to HGK so that the case will closed bcs the further the investigation and trial the more dirt will come up, and that is why Chairmain Choi want to put it end asap.
For the woman judge, i guess the judge just want to be fair. Remember the evidence of having her with affair? OSJ never disclosed it, maybe that's why the judge dont want to be a one sided. As for the police in that case, i think they're not Chairman Choi people, but the higher ups. One of the police is kinda close with one of the member of LCC. I can guess that they are just doing their job with no one on their favors.

I’m little bit lost since at first I thought Choi Tae Guk wanted to get rid of OSJ thus putting her in prison. But now, why did he ended up forcing Han Gi taek to take all the blames ?
Was it because all the students managed to find all the evidence and to freed himself from all suspicion ? and why the woman judge who kinda have a beef with OSJ seems ok with her ? and the police during the court, why they ended up siding with OSJ ? Aren’t they Choi Tae Guk people ?

Believe me, in real life, it is a highly prized skill being able to converse like OSJ. Smooth talking, combative, offensive, defensive, bad intention even hateful but civilized and polite at the same time. Her non-verbal, gesture is perfectly performed. The way she lunged forward while emphasizing her statement, her poker face and unfathomable eye glare. The character,by design, due to young age, is a junior in comparison to those older bigshots in manipulating skills. She struggles to keep up with the elders. It shows. She got her down and under moments too. But the depiction is not one whiny, iam just a victim, world is so unfair depiction. She licked her wound and keeps fighting. 90's babies viewers wish to be at that level of communication skill in which only tvdramas could entertain such idea. Older viewers at least smile a lot for many of them have been exposed in such brutal real life situation. In reality, person might have broken mentally, given up and quit.The depiction of the struggle to survive in competitive world. The majority just muddled through it. But not OSJ. That is one of many reasons why this tvdrama is interesting to watch. Viewers root for her; because we couldn't do what OSJ try to do. I wish to offer my utmost respect to the writers team, but OSJ mingling about with students might blur things up. She would get bored easily engaging in table conversation with em. Not up to her level. That was why she act like that haughty college instructor in front if her class. So what this particular kid could offer to her? we cant go to toyboy scenario, Can we?

This was the same colored sweater that was found planted along with Gong Chan as he lied unconscious by the beach with a knife in his hand. Little girl could be Oh Soo Jae's daughter as they have been having frames in the scenes and I think it is not only to show that Soo Jae is kind and have maternal traits. The wife even confessed the young girl isn't her daugter.

I skipped a lot when it just the two of them, or them with his ahjussi. And that makes me, maybe, missed a lot if clues about some case. But I really can't watch it. If only Gong Chang is potrait as a man in his early 30, I can still watch it. I mean Oh Soo Jae is just so stunning. I just hope the romance won't play much in the future, so I won't skip too much

He felt helpless in front of other more powerful fathers and ended up taking it on his son, slapping him profusely.
They did not show who the victim was but I am pretty sure, that's Gong Chan's sister.

Firstly the plot, the way the story builds up, the back story of both the main lead and the way the story make us the viewers to think what actually happened is what makes this drama one of the best drama i seen so far. And the cast, seo hyun jin really play her character well, that's a side where she is so cool, smart and basically a bada*s, and there's another side of her where she portrays the characters weakness and her sad past, and lastly her cute side with main lead actor gong chan. Really proud that hwang in yeop is in a drama where his the main lead. I felt sometimes main lead can be too cringey with the romantic part with the female lead but overall he manage to show the calm side of the character well and having the right mix of sadness whenever it shows his past. Overall a drama that everyone should watch and it will definitely hook you to it.

I look at them and I really see Oh Soo Jae and Gong Chan, two individuals who have very sad pasts. My heart bleeds for them. This drama really deserves double digit ratings. Very thrilling since ep 1.

While for Hwang In Yeop, really appreciate he took a different role this time unlike the typical high school student before. He can portray the character of gong chan very well. I can see how warm and deep his feeling for oh so jae through his eyes.
I don't mind with the romance especially after watching the 5th episode. Her past was too painful. He needs Gong Chan to heal her.
Bravo for all the cast and team for bringing such an amazing work!!

Ps. Coincidentally, currently watching Come and Hug Me where Heo Jun Ho also stars—and both these scripts I must say are masterpieces! I’m glad Why Her has high ratings (the review rating is questionable); Come and Hug Me didn’t have such high ratings(that one was definitely underrated!).

But the love line should've been pushed back a little and not rushed or better still should not have existed. This drama is good without the love line and the main actor can't act. He doesn't fit this role and his acting compared to Hyunjin is bad. They should've casted a great actor who would match up with Hyunjin well.

Seo hyun jin plays her role sooo magnificently and Hwang in yeop, gosh so perfect, i am now a fan. Their chemistry is just so soo good, the tiny gestures, the way they look it gives me butterflies. Heo jun ho also, he really is a veteran actor. First saw him in Come and Hug Me alongside Jang ki yong and he played serial killer psycho dad, omg i was reminded of the feels over that one.
Anyways, everyone is really good here that my comments do not make sense anymore cause im so excited to watch the next episode. Job well done to everyone, to all casts and production staff! Congrats for the high ratings! It seems this series is soo well loved both in South Korea and international.

Hwang inyeop first lead role and he's doing a good job, the chemistry with Hyunjin is also really good like I felt butterflies and I keep replaying all their scenes, I just wish they have more scenes because it's literally the best part of this drama. Can't wait for more episodes

Jun 12 2022 9:11 pm The story is fast-paced, the FL and ML acting is on point, the unfolding of events will keep you guessing and intrigued, the lines are well written, even the cinematography is well thought of, and directing is well executed. In real life, they have a 6-year gap (SHJ 37 and HIY 31), that others may think it may be cringy to watch. However, the age difference is needed in the story and as the story unfolds you would understand. And because of how everything is done superbly it would be the last thing you would be concerned about. I hope Asian Wiki would update the posted episode ratings every after release so everyone will know how good it is. It is a must-watch.

So far the most favorite kdrama of this month. Keep it up .

Jun 06 2022 4:12 am First episode, I was in shock of Seo hunjin's acting and her visuals. Like I'm sure by the end of this drama she will be bagging all the awards, she deserves. Also this drama is giving me major "How to get away with murder vibes, I just hope they don't focus more on Tk law firm and the murder of Park Soo young. I would like them to explore the relationship between oh soo jae and her students, see them solving past cases and going to court with her and more romantic scenes between Soo jae and Chan.

When he held her hand, I was so scared for my boy, I thought she would flare up knowing her personality but she literally smiled while staring at her hand omg omg. It would be epic if they meet and slug it out verbally, engage in awesome heavy-weighted conversations with all their non-verbal skills spewing out up to the brim. Something like Brando and Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now, or Pacino and De Niro in Heat. But here, they seem in the same side. so i guess no verbal confrontations. But watching HJH face to face with Seo Hyun Jin is a thrill too. So far her acting skill could balance HJH's. She is good. Her scene with HJH where he strong-armed her was awesome. She stood her ground. You go girl! I giggled watching the scene coz HJH scared the crap out of me. Maybe I wish to be like her, because i couldnt.
