The video goes in depth on what caused Anthony to leave Smosh, including the revelation that he had been considering leaving the channel for an unspecified amount of time. He explains that Smosh being owned by a company and becoming a brand heavily affected his creative freedom. He states that he had hoped Smosh would somehow become more reminiscent of the way it was in the early days of the channel. After finally accepting that this would not be possible, he decided, as he tells his viewers, that it was "time to leave".

Many fans, including popular YouTubers, were emotional, varying between offering support to Anthony, criticising him and Smosh, or being sad, angry, happy or neutral towards the sudden major change to both Smosh and Anthony's positions.
