Where's a woman when you need one? Need a shirt to go out in tonight, trouble being they're all creased (Mother persists in putting em in a basket so they get all scrunched up at the bottom)... and and she's gone out... leaving me to iron my own shirt. Anyway, why the hell is ironing so hard? and how the hell does she get the shirts so uncreased? I've spent about 30 minutes trying my best, I've got majority of the back and the front done but the top part of the shirt just below the coller, and the arms (short sleeved) just take the pee... I can't get to em without ironing over something else and putting another crease in I hate it

Ahhh, well maybe it is about time you learnt how to, you need lots of steam and press quite hard and then that should get the creases out. I thought creases were all the craze at the moment??

The top part still goes screwy As for steam, I think this iron was designed to be put on a stove It's about 90 years old

Tuftus Guest Posts: n/a Re: Why is ironing so hard? Jeez, when I was 13 my mother taught me to use the washing machine, the tumble dryer and then the Iron all in one afternoon!!! Start with the collar, then flip it over and do the shoulder bit, then the front side, then the back and the other side and finally the arms and cuffs. Take your time and be patient and as Allie said use plenty of steam you will be looking tip top in no time!!! hth

After years of struggling, I treated myself to a steam press - about twice the price of a good iron - but by far the best household gadget I have ever bought. All my ironing is done in about a quarter of the time and looks twice as good. 100 pounds of pressure at the touch of a finger aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!! Abs

Put a very slightly damp cloth (tea towels are good) between iron and shirt, the extra steam generated will help the creases come out.

Trousers? I HATE ironing trousers!!!! Shirts are a doddle though - I pity my sister who has 42+ to iron in a week!
