Why Is Luna Lovegood So Strange? - PotterHead

We all love and adore Luna Lovegood, whether it be because if her strange personality or the way she talks, either way we all love her. But why is she so admirably different?

One reason for her being so strange may be the fact that she witnessed her own mother’s death at a young age. We know this because of a conversation she had with Harry Potter about how they both could see Thestrals (creatures only visible after someone has seen death) This could be a reasonable explanation.

Lion_LovegoodWe also know that she is a very strange girl from the fact that most of her year call her “Loony Lovegood” – a nickname given to her because of her strangeness. Hermione actually calls her the nickname when she is first introduced to us, when Luna, Herimone, Harry, and Ron are all in the carriages going up to Hogwarts.

Her strangeness continues throughout the year, one incident of this is when part of the D.A Army tried to break into Umbridges office to talk to Sirius Black. She was gagged and tortured, but Luna hardly seemed to care, she was staring into nothingness, to an extent she seemed bored.

Along with this Luna Lovegood has an arsenal of weird belongings. Things such as a Lion Hat, Eagle Hat and Beetle Wing Earrings.

  1. Generally speaking, everything about Luna makes me happy. I must that I actually wanted her to get involved with Neville. Somehow, I see them being a cute couple. But Rowling had her reasons and it actually makes more sense that she ended up with Newt Scamander’s grandson. I’m sure the two of them would raise their children with some very open and fascinating ideas about magical creatures.

    • I love how we are so emotionally vested into these characters,as if they were real people! It would have really been very cool if Neville and Luna ended up together. His bravery combined with Luna’s positivity and the fact that they both lost their mothers, might have made their love story a lot more powerful 🙂

  2. Well, thats all correct and i also find her fun to read, to some extent…

But what really puts me off is her (and her fathers) complete denial of established facts. When Hermione told her about the Erumpent Horn wich blew her fathers house up and she still insisted it was from some other weird creature and it wont be a problem cause the horn will repair itself. Citing as only proof that her father told her so…..

Really…i couldnt stand such a person around me…no matter how nice she would be.

    🙂

  4. I honestly am obsessed with Luna Lovegood! We are actually a lot alike. I value that we both are different from many others. She has great intelligence (like me) and that she could believe in 10 impossible things before breakfast, (like me) Luna Lovegood is my favorite character from Harry Potter.
