Why Is Nylon Cable Ties Easy to Break and How to Solve It?

Do zip ties break in cold weather? Yes, It is a very normal phenomenon where the nylon cable ties become very brittle under low-temperature working conditions or in winter during the use.

What are the specific reasons for the easy break of the nylon cable ties?

The main component of the nylon cable ties is plastic which is an aggregate of macromolecules. The characteristic of macromolecules is that the movement will slow down when the temperature is low, and will be accelerated when the temperature is high. In winter or at low temperatures, the molecular movement is slow. Thus, when the nylon cable tie is subjected to external force, the object will be deformed. Because the molecular movement is slow, the external force is not easy to transfer away (equalize the internal stress) or be consumed (molecular chain friction). In this circumstance, the concentration of internal stress is prone to occur. When the internal stress reaches a certain level, the macromolecules will break, causing cracks which will cause the internal stress concentration and spread. Finally, the nylon cable tie will break.

How to solve the problem of easy break of the nylon cable tie?

The first method: nylon cable ties manufacturers can add special materials of small molecules to the production of nylon cable ties to enhance the force transmission effect of plastic molecules when they are in motion. However, this method can only be applied to some special industries due to its high cost. For example, high-tech material technology research and fire safety system are particularly required for a safe and stable working environment. The second method is that if nylon cable ties are used in our daily life under low temperature conditions, we can perform a simple preheating first, such as covering the heat with our hands, or using a heater for a short time. The third method is to try to stabilize the amplitude and strength during use when using nylon cable ties, so that the force transmission between the plastic molecules is even.

The three methods are currently the most mainstream ones, which can effectively reduce the accidental loss of nylon cable ties. In fact, it is not only suitable for nylon cable ties but also for all plastic products.
