1. Dental Student

Members do not see this ad. Do I miss something? On paper (their websites and dentalachool explorer), I notice that the difference, for all tuition+expenses+ cost of living, between USC and other private schools (midwestern, westernU, UOP...) is only about $20k-$30k. I think that’s not a big difference and don’t understand why most people avoid USC. I guess I’m missing something. Thank you.

maybe compared to other expensive private schools, USC doesn't seem like a lot. However, when you compare USC to state schools, there's about a $100K+ difference. A lot of people forget to include interest which can be another $100K tagged on to your original 4yr COA. I do wonder how graduates from these dental schools pay off their loans because no way can they pay that off in 10 years and still live a modest lifestyle. Also, UOP is different. They are a 3 yr program so they are kind of worth the high price tag since you graduate a year early. Even still, they are expensive.

Another reason that USC gets avoided is that many people do not like problem based learning which I believe is how USC does it. I have also heard that the amount of patients for some suites can be problematic if the area is saturated or the recruiter isn't great. All schools have some downfalls, I think the price tag and the the PBL is what makes a lot of students avoid it. S
