Lagos island is home to the creme de la creme of Lagos. Lekki, in particular, has received its envied status because of the many opportunities it provides to randomly bump into one celebrity or the other.  Timaya, Davido, Tiwa Savage, 2 Baba, Funke Akindele and several other A-list celebrities have chosen the Lekki side of the island to locate their homes. Houses within this area in estates like Richmond Gate Estate and Amen Estate can cost anywhere from 150 million naira to 500 million naira or more. Definitely no chump change. Since like attracts like, the more stars and celebrities move to Lekki, the more aspiring stars also seek to land real estate in the area. It is an undeniable mark of success for a Nigerian celebrity.

Lekki is located on Lagos Island, divided from the mainland by a body of water, over which the Third Mainland Bridge runs. The whole of Lagos island has a vibe that is different from the rest of the city. Probably because it hosted the colonialists during their stay in Nigeria, and therefore still retains some European culture and influence, it feels more dignified for a person that has attained high status.  Past Victoria Island and into the inland, lies Lekki. The roundabout, as well as the busy junction, welcome you to Lekki Phase One. Lekki contains some of the glitziest streets in Lagos. Home to several sprawling duplexes and it gives a ‘hiding in plain sight feel’, which is good for a celebrity that wants to be seen but still would want to keep a low profile.

Lekki could easily be the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Lagos. Beverly Hills in Los Angeles is ‘Home to the Stars’. A highly coveted piece of real estate because of its heavy star presence, Beverly Hills is a historically rich place containing the story of the lives of some of the biggest stars in the world. Lekki also has a similar attraction, it is after all, home to some of Nigeria’s biggest acts.

Lekki is also a more safe and serene choice than Yaba, Ikeja and other parts of the mainland. Stars choosing Lekki on the island also creates enough of a distance between them and their fans, who are mostly on the mainland, to maintain some allure. It has now become a natural occurrence for a celebrity to go on social media to announce their new acquisition – property in Lekki.
Another popular estate in Lekki – Amen Estate
Lekki though on the island, isn’t as upscale and high brow as its counterparts – Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Banana Island. The cost of real estate in these areas is no child’s play and might prove difficult for even celebrities to afford. These are areas that are home to Politicians, Oil moguls, wealthy businessmen, it would be difficult to place a top Nigerian celebrity – actors, musicians, socialites – on the same level as these occupants.  Lekki is a better alternative because though cheaper, it is not too far away from the areas where true wealth is, so the celebrities can still rub shoulders and elbows with some of the truly wealthy. It is also still expensive enough to be bragged about, it is exclusive as well, because of its ‘island’ status.  Lekki is also right there on the pulse of entertainment areas in Lagos. On Lagos Island is where you have the largest concerts, the biggest outings, the classiest dinners, the right crowd. Lekki grants easy access to many of the places that a celebrity will want to be seen. Lekki has everything that a celebrity in Nigeria wishing to be a homeowner wants. Just enough class, taste, glitz, access and wealth.
