Open Document Essay SampleCheck Writing Quality Show More Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous. The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LSPCA) killed the pit bulls by lethal injection. Nineteen of the pit bulls were puppies (Dayan). This is a prime example of the misunderstanding and intolerance of this breed. Pit bulls should not be singled out as violent animals and should not have to be restrained based only on their breed. More importantly, all pit bulls should not be banned just because of their breed. Advocates that support pit bull bans insist all pit bulls should be restrained or banned. It is wrong to kill dogs just for being a certain type of breed. People often claim their dog was wrongfully put to death. It was on the Nashville news the other day that a man’s dog was shot by a police officer just because he was a pit bull. The dog was not attacking or attempting to bite the officer, just barking. Twenty-five of the pit bulls confiscated from Michael Vicks, the NFL player convicted of illegal dog fighting, were able to go to animal shelters and be adopted out to families. The other twenty-two dogs deemed unsafe by PETA were sent to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah. Most of those dogs deemed unsafe and recommended to be euthanized, have become agility dogs, therapy dogs and family pets

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Essay

The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. "Pit bulls are the least likely to be human aggressive. On the whole, you have to do a lot of work to make them aggressive to people" (Sue Frisch). This quote literally explains why pit bulls are the way that they are, not because they are savage but because their owners are. Hopefully the pit bull ban is revisited because it is an abomination and seems very…

    Persuasive Essay On Pitbulls

The answer leads to media. The media is the cause of the fear about Pit Bulls. They created the impression that these dogs are harmful and makes the public believe that they’re the only dogs that attack. It states in Source #4, “Despite the fact that other breeds of dogs can and do attack people, these incidents go unmentioned, even at the local level. The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving Pit Bulls, while keeping silent on attacks committed by dogs with better reputation, such as labradors.”…

Persuasive Essay: Pit Bulls Should Be Banned

Gangs in particular have pit bulls as guard dogs and they train their dogs to be mean and to attack. Does anyone ever stop and think that these dogs can get out of the owners house who doesn’t care about the dog and go attack people, or if the owner ends up selling the dog. Every day many dogs are put down because dogs have been attacking humans, and of course everyone wants to blame the dog. People need to see that the owner is to blame for not disciplining the dog right. Del Crookes states “nearly 5,000 dogs have been seized by the police in the last three years because they’re suspected of being a banned breed.”…

    Persuasive Essay On Pitbulls

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

Instead of totally banning this group or dog, there should be laws and restrictions for those that own them, and who can own…
