Why We Should Stop Using The Term Karen - Media Diversified

While I understand and sympathize with the content of this piece, I feel there is racism on both sides. Black people are victimized every day by so-called Karens which are actually women of many genders, not just white. Actually the most racist people Ive met are Hispanics and Asians so it goes without saying in genea the typics covered here concern faulty notions. This fear of black men in particular arises from a pretty solid understanding in society that the majority of crimes are committed by black men. And while it is wrong to judge or discriminate against someone for their perceived danger, associated with skin color it’s also a normal human response to threats. If you are walking in a store in summertime and see someone wearing a ski mask and gloves, you probably would perceive them as someone scary and walk promptly out of the store, not because you’re discriminatory against ski masks but because there is a natural association between criminality and ski masks. This same association has been formed by black people in terms of crime due to actual criminal activity and while it’s absolutely unfair to normal, law-abiding people, there is a certain weight of changing social stigma that needs to be undertaken by average black men and women to change how their own “race’s” community is perceived and you’re actively doing that. It is wrong and it is unfair but so are the millions of crimes committed by black men and unfortunately, thats important and can’t be erased, just as the crimes of all races are. We can say those crimss committed have to do with historical denigration and that is absolutely a part of it. But again, it doesn’t change societal perception because most of the people now living in the US are immigrants and either don’t know or don’t care about historical phenomena like slavery, particularly when you consider many immigrants faced or face horrifying things in this current generation, amongst actual living people. In my culture, there is a stigma against Muslims because coming from a Muslim country, I was discriminated against as a separate religious group. And those were personal experiences I went through and also matter. We can’t just gloss over crimes against humanity because it stigmatizes a race or group. That doesn’t mean outright poor treatment but natural associations are normal and human.
