P.E.T.A (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has made a public statement that they support Breed Specific Legislation aimed at PitBulls. They attempt to justify their position by claiming that the majority of Pitbulls are used as guard dogs or fighting dogs, with a very small percentage of pitbulls being family dogs. This group was formed with the intention of showing P.E.T.A that the majority of pitbulls ARE family dogs, in hopes that they will change their position and instead focus their time and efforts on legislation and action that will better protect all dogs, including pitbulls, from abuse and neglect. We can not comprehend how a well-meaning animal rights organization could support such cruel legislation. If not even P.E.T.A. will fight for these dogs, who will? We regard these magnificant creatures as family members, as best friends, and as miracles who teach our children about loyality & unconditional love. This may be one of the most valuable lessons learned..... taught by a Pitbull. We invite P.E.T.A to look at the hundreds of photos of our beloved dogs, romping with children, being spoiled, and giving us kisses. We fully understand the unfortunate abuse of pitbulls, and don’t need to hear from P.E.T.A the list of attrocities. But bans such as the one in Ontario do not solve the problem. Criminals and abusers will simply move onto another breed. Any strong, large and easily trained breed will do for them. Abuse of dogs in and of itself is already illegal, regardless of a breed ban. Although not nearly strong enough, Ontario does have animal cruelty legislation, and dog fighting is illegal. Clearly, the people who abuse pitbulls and have them in dog fights are not deterred by the law. Therefore, enacting a breed ban will not deter them either, they will simply move further underground, making the rescue of these animals even more difficult. The only people that are impacted by such a ban are law-abiding citizens, who now have to muzzle their sweet and affectionate family dogs in public, and the law-abiding dogs who have trouble breathing and panting, and who are no longer getting adequate excersize and enjoyment through running free in a leash free park. People who abuse their dogs in the first place do not take their dogs to dog parks, they keep them penned up inside or tied out in the backyard. It is the people who care about their dogs, their well behaved dogs, who previously took their dogs to dog parks, and who no longer can do so. P.E.T.A says they applaud the spay and neuter policy put forth in Ontario’s ban. We applaud spay and neuter policies as well-but not just for one breed of dog. How would such a policy help the abuse of the rest of the dog population? How does it help dogs in puppy mills? How does it help stray dogs on native reservations? Is it not P.E.T.A’s purpose to speak for the rights of ALL animals? There ARE possible solutions such as spay and neuter policies for ALL breeds that can help ALL dogs, not just pitbulls. Look through our photos, see the devoted faces of these dogs, and consider pushing for legislation that can help all abused dogs, and let our beloved and loving dogs once again go free and enjoy their lives. Pitbulls and pitbull owners need your voice. Because the reality is, the majority of pitbulls are those that you see here. Don’t let the media convince you otherwise.

Having a whole passel of canines can certainly contribute extra fun to your life, but it can also add complications. While some breeds tend to be naturally easygoing and unlikely to seriously squabble, most of the terrier and working breeds require a little more attention and finesse from their pack leader.
