Popular Cuban-American actor William Levy has become an international sensation with his foray into English-language cinema. Born William Gutierrez Levy on August 29, 1980, in Cojim, Cuba, he traces Jewish ancestry on his mother’s side. He was raised by a single mother, Barbara, and took his last name, Levy, from her. He has two siblings, a brother Jonathan, and a sister Barbara. When Levy was 14, he and his family migrated to the U.S., living in Miami, Florida. There, he attended the Barbara Goleman Senior High School and after completing high school, enrolled at St. Thomas University on a baseball scholarship, studying business administration. He dropped out of university after two years to pursue modeling and moved to Los Angeles.

Levy began his career as a model while he was studying, working for Next Models agency. In 2002, he made his television debut by starring in two reality television shows in Spanish — “Isla de Tentacion” (“Island of Temptation”) and “Protagonistas de Novela.” In 2005, he acted in a play in Puerto Rico at the Centro de Bellas Artes — “La Nena Tiene Tumbao.” He then appeared on the Spanish television shows “Mi Vida Eres Ru” and “Olvidarte Jamas” (“Always on my Mind”) in small roles. In 2007, he made his debut in Mexican telenovelas with “Pasion.” The following year, he was cast in the lead role in yet another Mexican telenovela — “Cuidado con el Angel” — which established him as a rising star. 2009 saw him appear in yet another popular television show — “Sortilegio” — whose finale episode drew 6.6 million views. Later that year, he also provided voiceover in the Spanish version of the movie “Planet 51,” which went on to win the best animated Spanish-language film at the Goya Awards. That same year, he began touring with the cast of the play “Un Amante a la Medida” across the U.S. In 2010, he starred in another Mexican telenovela — “Triunfo del Amor.”

In 2011, he appeared on the cover of “People en Espanol” for their special edition on sexiest men of the year in 2010. In 2012, he ventured into American television, appearing in two episodes of the VH1 series “Single Ladies.” Later that year, he was announced as one of the celebrity participants in Season 14 of the dance competition television reality show “Dancing with the Stars” with Cheryl Burke as his partner. He finished third on the show. He returned to Mexican television in 2013 with the show “La Tempestad.” The following year, he co-starred in the Tyler Perry movie “The Single Moms Club,” which was a moderate success. Then in 2017, he was cast in the lead role in the American post-apocalyptic movie “The Veil.” In 2018, he appeared in the role of Mateo Ferrera in the third season of the Lee Daniels series “Star”. In 2019, he decided to venture into film production, producing and acting in the Spanish movie “En Brazos De Un Asesino” “(In the Arms of a Murderer”), which was a hit. That same year, he also opened a restaurant in Miami called Level 29, which serves Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. In 2021, he made his Hallmark movie debut by appearing in the movie “South Beach Love.”

Levy’s looks and popularity have also led him to several endorsement deals, including one with Pepsi Next. Levy is also known for his philanthropy. In association with the N.G.O. Un Kilo de Ayuda, he has sponsored the education and upbringing of 36 underprivileged children.
