Williamson is a town located in the county of Wayne in the U.S. state of New York. Its population at the 2010 census was 6,984 and a population density of 202 people per km². After 10 years in 2020 city had an estimated population of 6,688 inhabitants.

The town was created 232 years ago in 1793.

The Town of Williamson is a town on the south shore of Lake Ontario in the northwest part of Wayne County, New York, United States. The population was 6,984 at the time of the 2010 census. The town is named after Charles Williamson, a land agent of the Pulteney Estate.

The area was first settled around 1793 by Ralph and Joseph Herrick. In 1817, William Williamson established himself as a land agent for John Spencer Pulteney's Pulteney Estate Company, and started buying up land for sale to settlers. The first settlement in what would become Williamson was called "Williamson's Corners", after him.

In 1818, three years after the formation of Wayne County from Ontario County and Genesee County, William Williamson convinced Genesee County to give up parts of its townships (which then became part of Ontario County) so that he could form his own town on the south shore of Lake Ontario. The new town was named "Williamson", after him.
