ORIGIN Willie Hugh Nelson is an American country singer, songwriter, actor and animal rights activist. He was born during the Great Depression on April 29, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. Nelson and his older sister Bobbie were raised by their grandparents William and Nancy. Nelson began singing in his local church at an early age. He received his first guitar when he was six years old, and by age of seven he was writing his own songs. He attended Abbott High School and studied agriculture briefly at Baylor University.

CAREER Nelson made his debut into the music business in 1956 and has since released 68 studio albums, 37 compilation albums and over 2000 songs. He’s won multiple Grammys, American Music Awards and Country Music Awards. Nelson’s first album, And Then I Wrote, was released in 1962 by Liberty Records.
