Obtaining

Wolves are only found in a few Biomes, such as Forests and Taiga. They are naturally a Neutral Mob creature, however untamed Wolves will attack if provoked. If they are tamed then they are a passive creature.

They can be killed with any block, though most efficiently with a Sword. If a pack of Wolves attacks you and you are not wearing Armor, best of luck.

To tame a wolf it is best to always carry Bones when travelling through Forest and Taiga biomes. You can get near the Wolf with the Bone selected in your inventory hot bar. You will then be given the option to "Tame" the Wolf. Once the Wolf is tamed its eyes stop glowing red and the Wolf gains a red collar.

Usage / Purpose

Tamed Wolves are a useful companion when exploring as they will attack any hostile mob creature you encounter. Please note that Wolves can sustain damage from fire and hostile mobs, which means you must be careful not to put your tamed Wolves in harm's way.

Wolves can be made to "Sit" or "Stand" when you are close to them. If you want your Wolf, or magnificent and terrifying phallanx of Wolves, to follow you then they must be Standing. If Wolves get too far away when following you then they will teleport to catch up.

Like other animals, Wolves can be bred. To breed Wolves make sure they have full health and then feed them any type of raw meat. Bred Wolves will spawn as tame.

Drops / Yields

Wolves do not drop anything if you destroy them.

Notes

Wolves are available in both Survival Mode (as a naturally spawning creature), or in Creative Mode as a Spawn Wolf Egg.

Wolves (untamed) will attack Sheep, becoming a nuisance to Villagers.
