That said, one woman may have just convinced us to change our ways thanks to her genius three-step washing trick.

Posting on the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips New, Sophie Louise Jenkins explained how she got her filthy fluffy rug looking as good as new.

Sharing amazing before-and-after images of the rug, Sophie wrote: “If you’ve got a cheap rug that’s not very thick and needs a wash don’t be afraid to pop it in the machine.”

In order to give it a thorough clean, Sophie put her rug in a 30 degree wash with some of Mrs Hinch‘s favourite Zoflora disinfectant, a splash of fabric softener and a washing pod.

Next, Sophie let the rug air-dry instead of putting it in the dryer to keep it nice and soft.

And finally, the cleaning fan brushed the rug using a Tangle Teaser to get rid of any knots and achieve that plush, soft finish.

Thrilled with the results, Sophie added: “You can tell the difference in the picture, it looks better than when it first arrived!”

Needless to say, Sophie’s simple cleaning hack impressed other members of the group.

 “Wow,” one replied. “It’s come up a treat!”
