It was a missed opportunity to not have any blue walls in the end sequence. TheSpaceBetween

At the end of fusion it felt like the Metroid DNA would become an obvious plot point for the future of the series, but outright overtaking her own DNA wasn't even close to the first thing I thought of. The way she just stands up like an insect after the fortress bombed to the ground, and the suit resembling an exoskeleton in every way, was super cool but also kinda a form of body horror I didn't see coming? Now I'm just wondering if we either have to fight the DNA later in the series, or save samus herself as she actually becomes a threat to the galaxy somehow... Wonder if this was always the intended direction for Dread all those years ago, as well 🤔 OP OP Astral

I mean, it's heavily implied that her Metroid DNA isn't going to be a problem for her anymore if you did watch the entire ending sequence. Plus, this is simply the end of the story arc involving Samus' relationship with Metroids, as confirmed by Sakamoto. Those scenarios are most certainly not going to happen. The Deleter

I did watch the end; it was subdued but it's still a latent part of her, something that was awoken by the Mawkin, X parasites, and Samus' rage. If this is the last they'll ever touch on the Metroids, then why make it such a specific goal to point out how she became a metroid herself, powers and all? Tailesque

Because it was the culmination of this entire storyline, and runs in tandem with Raven Beak's plan regarding Metroids. Samus becoming a Metroid was all for that final climax, and the deadly consequences of that transformation are essentially nullified/put into balance by Quiet Robe X. TheSpaceBetween

Doesn't mean it can't awaken within her again. I think we are going to finally see the Federation come after her now. They'll know the Metroid within her is a huge threat to the galaxy. The Metroid might awaken as a self preservation method being the very last one, and granting Samus the ability to take on the entire Federation army. But part of what makes this all so exciting is they could literally go in any direction. Now that Samus IS Metroid. Tailesque

The necessity of Quiet Robe's intervention kind of confirms that there isn't much Samus herself can do to actually "return" from that state, and the things that can are... pretty much gone now. I'm not saying that within the Metroid universe's logic it's impossible for her Metroid DNA to flare up again in such a way, but more so that I truly feel like it's an idea that's not going to just be used again like that. I also think any Federation-based conflict stories in the future will focus far more on Samus' relationship/rivalry with Sylux and his own history with the GFed rather than retread her Metroid DNA, but that's a whole other topic. Sylux is a Prime thing though. I seriously doubt Sakamoto has any interest expanding on Prime lore. I dont see any reason why Samus can't learn to control the Metroid within to some degree... She does also have DNA of the Chozo tribe which can control Metroids. But you may be right, they might not do anything at all with it. That'd be super disappointing, as her being part Metroid presents such exciting potential developments. RagnarokX

She was already a metroid when the meme was created. 2002: Samus gets metroid DNA and gains metroid abilities. 2003: Metroid manga reveals that "metroid" is the Chozo word for "ultimate warrior." OP OP Astral

Sorry, I guess I didn't clarify that I meant any Federation-based stories including those stemming from Prime. Because yes, I know he's situated in that department. But I also wouldn't say it's impossible for Sakamoto and Tanabe to collaborate and have these stories interact in some capacity. And I mean, of course she can control the Metroid within her now. That's thanks to her double dose of Thoha DNA and Quiet Robe X, which are probably suppressing it enough for the Metroid Suit to never be needed as such an extreme last resort again. I wouldn't doubt the possibility of new story developments involving just the fact that she carries Metroid within her, and you may be right in that it's the catalyst for Federation conflict. She may even go on to develop a controlled siphon ability stemming from it and her awakening in Dread! My initial perspective was just that I don't believe we're going to get the same climactic outcome from this part of her again, in the way it manifested at the end of Dread. The Fallen Oct 28, 2017 27,075 Tbilisi, Georgia Well, considering that Metroid is apparently a Chozo word for warrior and Samus is basically a Chozo warrior, she has always been a Metroid, even before getting the Metroid creature DNA. But now she's twice the Metroid she was before. Sanox

Member Oct 25, 2017 11,229 Her Metroid power is either a resolved plot point or she will be able to control her Metroid powers in some form. It is pretty silly how Samus can slide through narrow passages but not crawl before getting the morph ball. The slide + later morph ball unlock really does make this stand out deepFlaw
