When does the Akatsuki no Yona manga update? AkaYona chapters are published twice monthly in the magazine Hana to Yume. This is usually on the 5th and 20th of each month, though it can vary from time to time. Please also be aware that the manga does go on break sometimes for different reasons, and as such does not run in every issue, leaving a month gap between chapters instead of a two week gap. ? How and where do you read the latest chapters!? I read the Japanese chapters as they are released by Hana to Yume, the magazine that publishes AkaYona in Japan. There are a number of ways to do this, which I talk about in detail on my 'Support the Series' page. ? Okay... but I can't read Japanese. What about English scanlations? Sorry, but I cannot help you there. I do not follow any scanlation teams, I don't know any of their members, their release calendars or anything about how they operate. I'm afraid I'm just not the person to ask about this sort of thing. ? Is there going to be a second season of the AkaYona anime? Sorry, but there has been no announcement for a season 2 at this stage, and it is entirely unknown if we will ever be graced with a season 2. Trust me though, if there is ever an announcement I will blog a lot about it and be sure to have any information put in my Akatsuki no Yona news tag. In case you are unaware though, there are three special episodes (OADs) that were released after the anime finished airing. The first of these is a side story that focusses on Kija, and can be watched straight after finishing the anime. The second and third OADs, however, cover chapters 100-105 of the manga, and therefore contain massive spoilers. If you have any plans to read the manga after finishing the anime, I would not recommend watching these two OADs unless you really do not care about spoilers. ? Are you sure? I've seen posts/read news about a second season! Unless that poster links to a respectable site that confirms this information (such as Anime News Network or the like) that post is false or simply the author hoping for a season 2. I am serious when I say that the AnY fandom here on tumblr would pick up any news on a new season faster than you can say "Yona loves Hak", so if you see some "news" and come here and there's nothing being said, that "news" is likely just rumour or wishful thinking. Sorry if your hopes are dashed, but that's just how it is. ? Okay then... guess I'll read the manga. Where did the anime leave off? The anime covered roughly 8 volumes of the manga. By "roughly", I mean that some plot points happened earlier or later in the anime than they did in the manga, that some filler scenes were added to push out episode run times, and that certain scenes from the manga were skipped. Overall though, the anime was very loyal to the manga, so starting up with volume 9 should be no problem. This said, the end of the Awa arc was the most significantly altered in the anime (to nicely wrap everything up in the last episode) so re-reading the last part of the arc (starting with volume 7) might be a nice way to reintroduce yourself to the series in the manga format. Personally though, and if you have the money, I would recommend starting with volume 1. That way you can have fun re-reading through all of the character introductions and world-building, definitely won't miss anything, and you'll be supporting the series even more. ? I love AnY and want to read/watch something like it! Do you have any good recs? Yes... and no. Yes, in the sense that there are some great anime and manga out there that I'm sure you'll love, but no in the sense that they don't combine all of the themes AnY does in a completely similar way. It would really depend on what you wanted to get out of the series as to what I'd point you towards: If you want something that has a sense of adventure like AnY, try Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Baccano!, Fate/Zero, or Garo: Honoo no Kokuin. In general, I think you'd likely enjoy stories typically published under the 'shounen' genre, with their big action setpieces, large casts and grand adventures. If you want a romance series or an anime with familial-like relationships, check out Chihayafuru, Fruits Basket, Barakamon, Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, Nagi no Asukara, Reimei no Arcana, Ouran High School Host Club and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. Or if you're more into the politics in AnY, and want a series that looks at morals and ethics, give Rokka no Yuusha, Code Geass, Zankyou no Terror, Shinsekai Yori and Psycho-Pass a shot! Or, if you really want to watch the series I think is most like AnY in all aspects, go watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. ? Who do you ship in AnY!? I am very open to A LOT of couples in AnY; however, as I'm not a particularly fervent shipper, there are only a few that I ship in the sense that I could blog about them heaps and heaps. I do have a few nOTPs, but I still reblog stuff about them because I am fine if other people ship them. However, I will not bring them up often in my own posts, if at all. If a certain ship isn't listed, assume it goes in the 'it's okay' category. SHIP SHIP SHIP - fangirl and cry over a lot: - Hak x Yona - Hak x Soo-Won (pre-chapter 1) - Hak x Soo-Won x Yona (pre-chapter 1) - Jae-Ha x Kija Like it a lot: - Yona x Lili, Yona x Kija, Yona x Shin-Ah, Yona x Yoon, Yona x Jae-Ha, Yona x Tae-Jun - Hak x Jae-Ha (though I brOTP them more) - Geun-Tae x Yun-Ho - Tetora x Ayura - Lili x Tae-Jun - Zeno x Kaya It's okay: - Soo-Won x Lili - All original dragon ships Don't ship: - Soo-Won x Yona - Yona x Zeno ? How come you don't ship Yona with Soo-Won and Zeno!? Trust me, I don't hate either character, it's just my personal tastes. I feel it would be a backwards step for Yona as a character if, after everything, she ended up with Soo-Won (even if he is correct somehow). I do like their relationship A LOT in the story and want them to interact more, I just don't like them romantically. As for Zeno and Yona... Well, avoiding spoilers, I just don't like it given Zeno's circumstances. I very much appreciate their non-romantic relationship though :) I do still blog about both pairs though, so please don't think I'll ignore them. Again, this is my opinion, so please respect it, as I shall respect yours~ ? Do you have any recommendations for good AkaYona blogs? Ngl, my blog isn't actually too heavily involved with the goings on in the fandom here on tumblr. By that I mean I don't post and reblog a lot of opinions and meta unless I have something to add myself, and as such a lot of heavily active AnY blogs just don't appear on my own.
