Yoshis, one of Nintendo's cutest creatures, have a complicated biology. People wonder, why do ALL Yoshis lay eggs? How can Yoshi talk? Is it a saddle or a shell? Does it really have shoes?

Overall Biology (What we know)

Yoshi is a type of dinosaur. They are omnivores, meaning they eat plants and animals (and decomposers if we count the powerup mushrooms and the Goombas.) Regardless of their color variation, they always have a red shell with a white brim, 3 red spikes running down the back of it's head, and a white underbelly. Yoshi also appears to have a big bulbous nose and conjoined eyes.

Yoshi's Reproduction[]

There are 3 different explanations to why all yoshis can lay eggs

  • All yoshis are female: Yes, I took this of from the latest video of Game Theory, ha ha ha, but this could be a possibility. It is confirmed that yoshi eggs can hatch into yoshi hatchlings, meaning they are fertile. How exactly? There could be 2 types of yoshi, a female, and a psuedo male yoshi, meaning the psuedo male yoshi have a psuedo p-. . . 1-up mushroom, that functions as if there were any male yoshi.
    • Bonus theory: Birdos (If there is more than 1 Birdo) could be similar to the yoshi's reproductive system, except all of them are males, making their species have psuedo females as opposed to psuedo males.
  • Male yoshi eggs aren't fertile and are used to attack: Perhaps one of the most biological, yet flawful idea, is that the yoshi eggs that the males lay are used for self defense. Unlike my last theory where I claimed all yoshi are female, this theory supports the idea that there are both male AND female yoshi. As mentioned before, the eggs yoshi lays can be fertile. Of course it's only fertile if a female yoshi finds a mate and reproduces. However the eggs that male yoshi lays aren't fertile, meaning no hatchling. They are instead used for defense like their attack in the Yoshi's Island series.
  • The "eggs" are actually their feces: As crazy and immature as it sounds, yoshi "eggs" could be their crap. People may have not noticed, but everytime a yoshi eats, it lays an egg. Not only does that mean their digestive system can reach up to "super sonic" levels of fast, but their crud just looks like an egg, or is incased in an eggshell, almost similar to wombats, who have cubic poop. Of course, this could only be possible when we're talking about the male yoshi.
