“You Help Out Your Own People” Michael Jordan Publicly Bashed ...

Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan are two of the NBA’s most acknowledged players as they were old friends and rivals at the same time. In the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, Jordan and Barkley played together for the US “Dream Team” but however, they played in the NBA on opposing ends. While Barkley played for the 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and Houston Rockets, Jordan spent the most of his time with the Chicago Bulls. They have been on television together, most notably on the Oprah Winfrey show. The point is that Jordan has a shady past when it comes to criticizing politicians and politics and now Barkley is a part of it

For instance, Michael Jordan has once received harsh criticism once for not endorsing or supporting a candidate in a North Carolina race. Jordan didn’t hold back, though, when Charles Barkley, a friend who later became an adversary, said to be entering politics. He declared that he would not support someone like Barkley and MJ explained why Barkley wouldn’t succeed in politics. The relationship between the two has been tight since since Barkley made some remarks in 2012. Despite this, Barkley occasionally defends his old friend because Barkley admires Jordan’s talent but does not agree with Jordan’s strategy.

Jordan still had some nagging doubts about Barkley entering politics in spite of all this. In an earlier interview that has just surfaced, he was questioned about this. He said: “Hell, no! No. No way. He’s witty, he’s smart, but he’s not a politician. He’s gotta help his own people. They’d vote for him down in Arkan…Alabama. I wouldn’t vote for him for s**t in North Carolina.” Charles Barkley was considering running as a Republican in the 1998 elections for governor of Alabama at the time but it dd not work out. In interviews over the years, he has frequently expressed his wish to serve as governor as an Independent, but it has never happened.

Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley’s long relationship came to an end as a result of Barkley’s composure regarding NBA issues. He faulted several of MJ’s decisions while in charge of the Hornets, and the six-time champion didn’t take Chuck’s criticism well, and this strained their friendship. The two NBA legends’ bond seems to have disintegrated since then. The friendship between the two NBA Hall of Famers has not yet been restored, and it is safe to assume that MJ does not appreciate criticism of his methods of operation.
