A car that can run the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds is considered incredibly quick. Few supercars can pull off the feat. Less than nine seconds? Unheard of for any new production car. But thanks to a 1200-horsepower motor and all-wheel drive, this innocent-looking Mk2 VW Golf can achieve it with ease.

We first covered this Golf—built by Boba Racing in Germany—in 2017 when it managed to run an incredible 8.67-second quarter-mile time at a runway event. Back then, it was pushing 64 pounds of boost through its inline-four. At this latest even in Santa Pod Raceway, that boost proved too be too much for the car to handle, so it was turned down to "just" 48 pounds, allowing driver Boba Kettler to set a quickest time of 8.39 seconds in the quarter at 166 mph.

According to the video's uploader, this isn't even the fastest run the car has put up at Santa Pod Raceway. At the same event last year, Kettler ran an 8.26-second quarter-mile time at 170 mph, setting a record for VW Golfs at the time.
