Luxus Panzer L My 2018 GSW came in Platinum Grey Metallic and over the first year I got me a stone chip in the hood. I did not leave the dealer without a paint touch up pen in the right colour, however, this particular dealer does not issue VW product for paint pens...they issue a product called Genicolor premium (genicolor.com). In the approx 2 years since this I have heard similar stories at other VW dealers. I found a genuine VW product from Russia shipped for approx 25CAD Here is a pic of both products. 2019-07-05_02-57-16 by Z R, on Flickr The Genicolor was just a pure garbage colour match. I will let the pic speak for itself. I even reshook the Genicolor stick for a few min and applied the paint ti a test media...both in the media and the car dried to the wrong color. The piece of test media with paint on it in this below picture is the genuine VW stuff, approx 10 min dry. 2019-07-05_02-58-02 by Z R, on Flickr #1 · Jul 5, 2019 (Edited) My 2018 GSW came in Platinum Grey Metallic and over the first year I got me a stone chip in the hood. Hers is your color, I think https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Volk...ne-Volkswagen-Platinum-Metallic-Touch/dp/B0094XPT5U?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2603393011 FWIW, in my experience it's very difficult to get a perfect match with a touch pen (or brush), even if it's the exact same paint. The thickness, pattern, sheen, etc, of the touch up application will vary from the professionally sprayed paint on the panel, and then there's the whole clearcoat thing.... I would skip the clearcoat pen, that really makes the touch up stick out. #3 · Jul 6, 2019 I have one of those paint & clear pen sets for the Tiguan, works well. As for applying the clear, you are right to leave it off unless you are doing a professional job. Check out this link, I learned a LOT from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f9zqVbcZDQ 0 Reply #4 · Jul 6, 2019 ^ That's some nice work. Wish I'd watched this before doing a big touch up job on my truck! The Alltrack is not that dinged up yet, but will keep this in mind for when it's time do some work on it. thx #5 · Jul 6, 2019 I've used www.automotivetouchup.com pens and small bottle applications for my cars over the years with good results. Nothing will be as good as new but this works. I was told once that metallic silver and gray are very hard to exact match. #6 · Jul 6, 2019 I would agree with that, metallic gray is hard to get right. I used the Automotive Touch Up paint in the bottle on the truck, and while the color itself (metallic charcoal) is a fairly good match considering that the original paint is 32 years old, the metallic specks in the paint make it harder to get a seamless look between the two. Not only does the paint need to be the same color, but it seems like you have to have the same amount of metallic particles suspended in it on both the original and the touch up paint for them to look the same at different angles and lights. If one of the two paints wasn't mixed as well as the other one was, it really shows.. Don't know if this observation is technically correct, but that's how it seems to me when looking at the results. 0 Reply #7 · Jul 6, 2019 I applied some of the Genuine VW stuff today. Match is 99.999% with some buff/polish it will be perfect. #8 · Jul 7, 2019 I bought from this guy on ebay and it's a very good match. $11 https://www.ebay.com/itm/TOUCH-UP-P...-OUNCE-SIZE/191872604385?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Insert Quotes Post Reply
