keeble K I've driven the M3 and the 135i. Has anyone found enough data from news reports to see how the 1M and 135i compare in performance? #1 · Feb 8, 2011 I've driven the M3 and the 135i. Has anyone found enough data from news reports to see how the 1M and 135i compare in performance? Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Feb 9, 2011 BMW AG Website The BMW Corporate website in Germany has the 1er M Coupe listed. In a nutshell, bigger tires 1.5" wider front and rear, 19" vs 18" wheels used on 135i. 4.9s vs 5.2 0-60 times ....well actually, 0-62mph/100 km/h Top Speed: both @250 km/h or 155 mph ---> This surprises that there is no difference. Leergewicht (Empty Weight) is @ 1570kg vs 1530kg for 135i. I'd thought the M would be lighter but the bigger wheels and tires add up to additional wgt? Where's the carbon fiber hood on the 1 series tii ? The biggest difference beside bigger wheel/tires and price is the M has the ability to generate and hold for short bursts a higher level of boost and hence the slightly quicker 0-60 times. The larger wheels and tires should increase grip considerably though.... Although it's in German here's the information from BMW AG corporate. http://www.bmw.de/de/de/newvehicles/mseries/m1coupe/2010/showroom/technical_data/index.html For comparison Here's the 135i data...albeit in German. http://www.bmw.de/de/de/newvehicles/1series/coupe/2011/showroom/technical_data/index.html #3 · Feb 10, 2011 (Edited) but wait there's more ! I forgot to mention it yesterday but the 1 M is going to have a lower ride height. This lowering of the center of gravity due to stiffer springs in conjunction with the wider wheels and tires should make it a real handler. There is also something mentioned on the M which has to do with the limited slip which from what I am translating in my head from the German, is a variable ratio limited slip differential ? I know that they're using the ABS systems now as the limited slips are...it might have something to do with that....more software. I'll post more later once I translate it fully, technical German is ....well technical. #4 · Feb 10, 2011

I remember reading that it uses the same diff as the M3. It's an electronically controlled viscous coupling (much like the center diff in some AWD applications) iirc. So it's more than BMW"s standard ABS fake-LSD and different than standard mechanical LSDs. 1 Reply #5 · Feb 10, 2011 That's what I'd suspected when I read variable limited slip. Since you couldn't change ring and pinion and planetary mechanical gear ratios on the fly. It would have to be done electronically. With the ABS and traction control systems, already looking for wheel spin for the brakes/traction anyway, ala the wheel sensors, there's almost no need any longer for the old mechanical ones. I would seriously want the M one though. It makes a tremendous difference when corning and applying power. :) #7 · Feb 11, 2011 True, but the regular 135 can now be optioned wityh a dct gearbox #9 · Feb 13, 2011 I couldn't be more delighted to learn that the double clutch box can now be ordered on the 135. That's.where I'll be heading when my 335 lease is up! #10 · May 8, 2011 :dunno:i was told thar the 6 speed auto are DCT also can any one tell me also are they dry box thanks Insert Quotes Post Reply
