OUR TAKE: Far too many cars in this market remain undiscovered gems. Take this Infiniti G35X: Drive one and you’ll ask yourself, “Why on earth don’t I see more of these on the road?”

Infiniti has taken a huge step forward with its second-generation G35. The exterior looks even sleeker than the original, and the interior feels more inviting and luxurious. And as expected, the familiar Nissan V6 cranks out plenty of power—and sucks down quite a bit of fuel in the process. The transmission tends to hunt at times (we’d also prefer another top-end ratio to smooth things out even more on the highway), but steering reacts responsively and provides a nice weighty feel. When driven hard, the car will push a bit in the corners, but not more than you’d expect with the added weight of the awd.

Overall, it’s a screamer, and a hoot.

And the consider this: The G35X starts more than $6,000 less than the BMW 335xi. That’s not a bad bargain for an entry-level luxury vehicle with all-wheel drive. So while the Infiniti has its irksome characteristics, its on-road behavior, comfort, powertrain—all are world-class.
