Wright112192 W Hello, I'm new to this forum. I tried to search for threads related to my issue but I didn't see any that really shared my issue. I have a 2014 Jetta se 1.8t with 105k miles. The A/C is running very cold but when the A/C is on there is a buzzing vibrating sound. When i switch off the A/C the sound fades away. I opened the hood and turned on the A/C on to see where the sound was coming from. I noticed that the auxiliary fan and the main fan were spinning extremely fast and wobbling causing a ton of noise and vibration. Once I switched off the A/C, both fans stopped spinning. Is this an electrical issue with the fans causing them to spin fast or is this something else? Is the fans worn and wobbling? Any help is appreciated! #1 · May 11, 2019 Hello, I'm new to this forum. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · May 14, 2019 IT's normal for both fans to run when the AC is on and yes they are running very fast. For sure they are a bit noisy but you are talking about a ton of noise. Did you just noticed this is more noisy than before ? For sure, engine at idle, radio off, and inside fan at low speed, you will certainly hear them. My Jetta does. #3 · May 15, 2019 I agree they are a bit noisy and at this milage you should feel them spinning inside the cabin. Do you think that the noise is coming from cooling fans? There are other components in the AC system that could make similar buzzing noise. #4 · May 19, 2019 (Edited) I've only owned the car for a little over a month and haven't been using the a/c much. Although I have used the a/c a little, it was not making any noise until the past two weeks. I've been monitoring the fans closely. The Aux fan is spinning extremely fast compared to the main fan. Its spinning so fast that the fan housing vibrating, vibrates the entire car. I'm wondering if the fan controller is bad or if it's a temp sensor maybe. I don't have much VW experience so all help is appreciated. #5 · May 20, 2019 The fan controller is most likely bad. Temp. sensor sends temp. data for the ECU to switch the fans on/off. The sensor can not affect fan speed. Do you have a fault code? #6 · May 20, 2019 (Edited) No codes that I'm aware of. Check engine light didn't com on. I too feel like it's the fan controller. From what I'm reading, I believe the fan controller is on the main fan only. Do I need to buy the entire radiator fan assembly or can I just replace the main fan that houses the controller? #7 · May 21, 2019 I experienced the same thing at the end of last summer (also have a 2014 Jetta 1.8) Out of the blue there was a very loud rattling / vibration whenever the AC was on. I popped the hood and noticed that the plastic assembly that holds the two electric fans between the radiator and engine was shaking violently. After a bit of research it appeared that the smaller of the two (the AC condenser fan) was the culprit. It turned out that this was correct. Bad bearings perhaps caused it to spin less than smoothly. I replaced it with an aftermarket version. If you google the VW part number (1K0959455ET) you'll find lots of alternatives out there. If you want to do the replacement yourself, it's possible to take out four screws then slide the plastic fan assembly down and out of the engine bay. It's not the worst procedure in the world but a bit of a pain. -J #8 · Apr 2, 2020 Thanks for the reply, I still have the issue when it hot and I've been dealing with it. I'm sure your right on the money about the bearings. I'll consider fixing it as it gets hotter here soon. #9 · Apr 5, 2020 Same thing happened to mine last summer. I forget if it was a bearing or if one of the fan blades was chipped/out of balance, but I just replaced the smaller fan unit. Took 30 minutes tops. There area several YouTube videos for fan replacement. #10 · Apr 5, 2020 I use to have a noise from the fan, it sounded like it was continually hitting something plastic, like a tail end of a zip tie or something. I didn’t touch it but years later, it seems to have disappeared by itself. But it may come back this summer as I will run the A/C again. So we will see. #11 · Oct 10, 2021

I have the same problem with my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta The whole inside the car vibrates now when the fans come on the fans are running way too fast for some reason #12 · Oct 11, 2021 One of the fans went bad on our 2014 around 50K miles if I remember correctly. It was wobbling and hitting the housing making a racket and vibrating the car. Replaced at dealer and back to normal. Our A/C compressor began making a whining sound intermittently after 50K miles, then some months later the A/C itself began to intermittently cool. Research shows a valve lively failed and the system was filling with metal debris. We traded the car shorty after that happened. Insert Quotes Post Reply
