sjak92 So i'm picking up a 2015 F10 520d M Sport Next weekend (24th B'day gift from the mrs believe it or not :thumbsup ) and i've been positively surprised that there is very little issue threads on here. I understand that they are fairly trouble free cars? Still under warranty for two years so not too fussed but nice to know its a solid product. Will post some pics soon #1 · Apr 12, 2016 So i'm picking up a 2015 F10 520d M Sport Next weekend (24th B'day gift from the mrs believe it or not :thumbsup ) and i've been positively surprised that there is very little issue threads on here. I was under the impression that it would be a B47 as well but clearly one of the last ones. I looked online and could I know the whole dreaded timing chain issue, was aware of it before buying the E90. Car only has 8k miles and I will service it before it hits 10k so i'm not that worried about the timing chain (that much) not sure the difference between N47T and N47N? #4 · Apr 12, 2016 was hopping you had the B47 as I knew you had the old N47 I thought you could give a comparison of them #5 · Apr 12, 2016 Well, i did have a 320d GT from BMW for a week and that had the B47. Was impressed with it and compared to the N47 it was more eager to pull i must say. Figures show that there is only 6bhp more and 20nm extra in the B47 compared to the N47. Plus the 320d is some 100kg lighter? that may have an impact. Now it may be a case that because this was a loan car i had the tendency to "put my foot down... hard" where as when i test drove my new car, I sort of knew I wanted it and did press as hard. The economy wasn't as good as expected, i only averaged 50mpg up to Manchester on a 70mph cruise, did not go above that. I average 54 in my e90 and tend to drive more enthusiastically shall i say. That higher ride and taller car may have something to do with the poor economy. With the 520d, i know it wont be as good on fuel as my current car, but hope it will approach those figures. I've looked around on the internet and fairly decided on the BMW power performance pack. Its expensive but it does not affect the BMW warranty so will go with that. I've been quoted large sums here but a dealer in Poland (where im from originally) said that they will have it all done for around £800 as labour is much cheaper there. BMW UK confirmed this would not impact warranty so happy days. Apparently that takes you to around 200/205 bhp and 420nm of torque but some people claim 220bhp and 440nm on dyno's, BMW has not precise figures. and that would take me right close to 525d territory which is good. I don't think there is much difference in the engines performance wise, the excellent ZF 8 speed auto is more impressive and imo 85% of the reason why those cars are so attractive to buy. Hopefully, happy motoring ahead, once I sort my insurance and GAP insurance out that is :) #6 · Apr 14, 2016 So anyone else - any warnings I should know about? #7 · Apr 16, 2016 Looking forward to the pics - I got rid of my F07 530d GT last week and went to a 525d MSport saloon (the 218hp twin turbo 2 litre diesel) as the GT was not too thirsty, it was a mission to park and navigate in shopping centre carparks... The new N47 2 litre engine has been revised since the swirl flap issue of the first common-rail diesels, or the M47 with the timing chain issues from 2007-2010. It's quite a powerful engine for its size, and has quite a nice exhaust note ;) #8 · Apr 17, 2016

Twin (power) scroll turbo - clever naming from BMW ;) I think I'm going to get the M Performance Kit on mine - will take to to 525d power and torque levels and will not invalidate warranty. Will take some pics next monday as I'll be at home - day off - so will wrap the door handle chrome inserts, chrome on grill and front wing chrome repeaters in matt grey. Car is Carbon Black with Oyster interior - so don't want to go for black trims. Should be fun. 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
