Also, I updated my X950G with the X950H firmware first, before I mentioned to anyone that the two TVs share identical hardware. I wanted to be able to verify that everyone else would be safe with updating. No one will have any issues. Click to expand...Wait... Are you the guy everyone talks about on the Reddit Sony Bravia Page? The one who figured out that X950G has the capabilities to do HDMI 2.1? All it needs is a firmware update to use it? Click to expand...Currently, Sony is getting harassed daily with phone calls from X950G owners, as well as owners of a few other TVs. People are demanding that Sony unlock 1440P/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM at least. I have said before that if these 3 features were unlocked, much of the heat Sony is getting would just mellow right out. They have done so much crippling to several of their midrange and high end TVs, and I have totally exposed them doing this. It is great to see people calling up Sony and demanding the features the hardware is capable of supporting. It is pointless to talk to low level reps. Many people are going straight to managers and complaining, which is what needs to be done. The last 3 years, people keep saying "why does Sony not have this feature, or why is that feature not offered when all the other companies offer it at the same price point'? The reason why this keep happening is because Sony has deliberately continued to cripple the **** out of multiple TVs in their product stack year after year. People are tired of it and are demanding the features now. D

Its done all the time with the Android phones. Would be nice if someone could do this. R

I modded the January firmware, and I unlocked 1440P/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM on my X950G with a hex editor and other tools. I have been on that firmware until yesterday, when I updated to the new May 13th X950H firmware. I gave the modded January firmware to several people, who also updated with it. I could not unlock QFT, or 4K/120Hz, as the blocks were not present. The previous April firmware, and now the new May firmware have additional security which has been implemented. They can't be modded anymore. I gave up my 1440P/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM mod I did with the January firmware in exchange for being sure that everyone could install the X950H firmware on their X950G. I updated my TV with it first, before telling anyone that the two TVs share identical hardware. I made sure that no one would have any issues by using my TV as the first to install it. The current firmware, and the April firmware can't be modded successfully. If you mod it, and attempt to update through USB, the TV does not detect a firmware on the USB stick anymore. Sony did not think that anyone would figure out that the X950G and X950H contain identical hardware, other than the updated speakers in the X950H. They also did not think anyone would figure out that the X950H firmware can be installed on the X950G. They should have been smart, and unlocked 1440P/120Hz on the X950H right out of the gate. They made it too obvious from the get go that the TVs shared identical hardware. Anyone who owns an X950G would be wise to update to the X950H firmware, before Sony does something to it so you can't anymore. DDannyW75

In addition to calling and demanding, buyers should just let the crippled products sit on shelves. I hope HiSense, Vizio, and TCL improve their quality and see that the big makers have left a tremendous market wide open.

· Banned Joined Jul 26, 2011 · 308 Posts I straight up told a manager at Sony that they should just unlock 1440P/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM on the TVs with the hardware capable of supporting it. If they did this, so many people would be happy. These 3 features do not even require HDMI 2.1. They can all be done on the HDMI 2.0B spec. All they are doing now is costing themselves sales. Many people are aware now that they have been lying about the hardware in the TVs, as well as deliberately handicapping them within the firmware to perform as lesser hardware. They are totally deceiving customers, and I don't agree with it.Gam3r 4 Life

Click to expand...Someone on this forum contacted Sony and told them that I modded their firmware. I have no idea who it was though. It is obvious that Sony added the additional security in the April firmware, and now the May firmware, so that it could not be modded anymore. I am sick and tired of seeing people getting ripped off. This greedy company needs to start offering the features that the hardware is capable of. They make a 1200 dollar TV(such as a 65 inch X950G), in terms of features, behave like a 700 dollar TV. It is totally inexcusable. D

· Banned Joined Jul 26, 2011 · 308 Posts Here is my link for the service manual for the X950G. You can see for yourself on page 86, it is an HDMI 2.1 mainboard with 4K/120Hz listed. At first, Sony tried to deny the hardware being present. Once they realized I had the schematics for the hardware, they admitted it. The fact that they have crippled this TV, as well as several other models, to not even offer 1440P/120Hz at a minimum is just a complete joke. That just shows you how much handicapping they are doing in the firmwares to the 2018, 2019, and 2020 models. https://www.pdfhost.net/index.php?Action=Download&File=72009c32236f8603e24380055c88e107 DDannyW75
